Department of Mechanical Engineering
Hello friends. My name is Elif Ezgi ÇÖKELEK. I am in my 4th year in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Başkent University. Mechanical engineering is a department where you can get a lot of information on the use, production, manufacturing materials of any kind of machine that one can simply imagine such as aircrafts, cars, all machines that work or do not work, which we see in our daily life. Courses like Physics, Chemistry, Introduction to Computer - Computer Software are given in the first year. We see a slightly broader range of these courses in the 2nd year. Technical courses are taken in the 3rd year. Fluid Mechanics, Machine Elements, Composite Materials, Heat Transfer. We have Fluid Mechanics Laboratory, Composite Materials laboratory and Heat Transfer laboratories. At the end of the first year, unlike in other universities, we have a 10-day laboratory internship. Then we have compulsory 20-working-days internship that can be done at the end of 2nd and 3rd year within and out of Ankara as well as abroad, based on one's wish. Our final projects are carried out in the 4th year throughout two semesters. Students will be awarded graduation at the end of the second semester, namely, in the last semester, in case the student chooses his desired project and receives a valid grade. After graduating from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, you do not have to be limited only to machinery, you may work in any sector of machinery field, in the private sector, the state or in any other sector you may think of; you can also take part in computer or business management. Friends, later on our video another friend of mine, who is currently studying at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Başkent University, will briefly talk about the experiences he went through.
Hello friends, I'm Beste YOLCU. I am a 4th year student in Mechanical Engineering at Başkent University. Since I was a child, whenever I looked at an object, I had been thinking of how this object had been made, how the design had been made, how it had been moving. And in the end, I decided to go for such a profession. That is why I chose Mechanical Engineering, to scientifically learn the way they had been made. The reason for which I preferred Başkent University is that the number of students in each class is limited at a certain level and here we are luckier, compared to other state universities. We have the opportunity to personally meet with our teachers. We have one-to-one consultants. And I preferred Başkent University because of other necessary sports, cultural and laboratory facilities. While we were studying at the department, honestly, the most helpful part for us was the library. For we have the most demanded library in Ankara. We can find all the big and necessary things in all the books. It is very hard to study and the department itself is hard. We frequently spend all of our time there. Apart from that, we are also very close with our labs and our teachers. This is a great contribution to our education. After graduation, I think I will specialize in some branch of interest and make an academic career. I think I have a recommendation to my friends, who would prefer this department. I recommend that you fondly join the department. Anyone with the ability to think numerically, who has the desire to design a machine can study at this department. I have a piece of advice to all the prospective students, who are thinking of entering Mechanical Engineering at Başkent University: our university has all kinds of possibilities in this regard. Taken that you can apply everything you have learned in terms of science and theory in the labs, you will have a very relaxed educational process. That's why I recommend Başkent University. I would like to wish good luck to all prospective students, who are thinking of joining my department at my university. Welcome to our family.
