School of Foreign Languages
Hi, I’m Mehmet Ali Uğur. I'm the director of the School of Foreign Languages. The School of Foreign Languages serves different units of our university. The students of various departments of the faculties that provide English education start their education from our school when they first come to our university. Some of these departments continue providing education in 100% English and a couple in 30% English. Among these, I can count the business and international relations students in the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences as 100% English education students. In addition, economics students study 30% of their material in English. Some of our departments, especially Industrial Engineering and Computer Engineering, are transferred to their departments after studying English here. In addition, students who enter the top 5% given their scores who are from different departments can receive a year of preparatory education at the School of Foreign Languages if they wish. Preparatory training takes a year. If the student receives a score of 60 out of 100 from the exemption exam, he is exempted from foreign language education and starts receiving education in the department. If they do not get the 60 points, they are subjected to a year of education here at the School of Foreign Languages. The School of Foreign Languages offers a modular education system. In this system, we have 4 periods that last shorter compared to the 2 semesters of the education system to which the university is subject. If the student succeeds at the end of taking the two modules, in January-February, they can take the exam and carry on with their training in the department. Otherwise, they can graduate at the beginning of the summer semester by taking the 2 modules we have offered in the 2nd semester. If they fail again, this time we take them onboard for the summer school. The student is eligible for an exam again in September. If they fail again, they take one more year of training. We are very excited about the quality of education offered by the School of Foreign Languages. We work hard, our staff is great and very hardworking. In the same way, we consider it very valuable that our students work as we do and we do our best to motivate them. As the student progresses between modules, or as they call it, "skip the levels", they will have to work harder, they will have to take more class hours, but rest assured they will enjoy it more, we have no doubt about that. Let me talk about Yalova’s advantages. We are located in a place where you can make it to both Bursa, Izmit and Istanbul between 45 minutes and an hour. As you can imagine, this makes the Yalova province and Yalova University really advantageous. In addition, I would like to underline that the education staff of the School of Foreign Languages is very young and dynamic. Students who will come here will not only listen to their teachers in lessons, they will always be able to meet with them at any time and interact in a friendly environment. Besides, there's something very important we need to remember, folks, which is the increasing number of international students each year thanks to our university's internationalization program. In other words, while you are studying at the School of Foreign Languages, you will not only learn English, but you will also have the opportunity to meet many different people from all over the world who belong to different cultures, speak different languages. I think you will learn English and also make very good friends in a multicultural environment. I wish all students who are coming to Yalova University School of Foreign Languages to study English preparatory education with great success.
