Turkish Language and Literature
Hello dear students, my name is Sevgi Öztürk. I am working as a faculty member at Trakya University, Faculty of Letters, Department of Turkish Language and Literature. I am a permanent staff member in the New Turkish Language Program, which is my area of expertise. Our department was established by Professor Doctor Necmettin Hacıeminoğlu in 1985 within the scope of Trakya University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences. In 1992, the second education program was included in our department. Our department currently continues its activities within the framework of the Faculty of Letters. In our department, education is given in the fields of New Turkish Literature, Old Turkish Literature, New Turkish Language, Old Turkish Language and Folklore. Of course, these are divided into subgroups as many compulsory and elective courses. Our students can easily access all our courses and the course contents on the website of our department. We have 4 classrooms in our department. 3 of these classrooms are large classrooms and the other is a smaller one. We mostly use small classrooms for elective courses. In addition, the central library of our university is open 24/7 and is at the service of our students. We also have a small library in A block of the Faculty of Letters that our students can use. Our students can complete their internships in schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education within the framework of the education they receive from the faculty of education. Currently, this internship opportunity is not available because as far as I know, a new framework is being prepared by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and the Ministry of National Education. When the framework of the program is clarified, our students will have internship opportunities at the relevant institutions. In addition, we prepare graduation projects for our students who are at the graduation stage at the end of 4 years. This, of course, guides our students and gives them the necessary information on how to conduct a scientific study.
Students of our department have the opportunity to study abroad with Erasmus and Mevlana exchange programs. Especially since our university is a gateway to the Balkans, we see that our students benefit greatly from the Mevlana Exchange program. The Erasmus program also offers many opportunities for our students. Our students can also benefit from the Farabi program, which is a domestic exchange program. A joint program called the double degree program is carried out between the University of Kosovo Pristina and our department. Students included in this program complete their first 2 years by studying in Turkey and the last 2 years at Pristina University in Kosovo. In addition, our students have the opportunity to do a minor and double major. In other words, students who come to our university have the opportunity to graduate with 2 diplomas by getting education from the Department of History or other departments that meet the conditions while studying in our department. National and international workshops are organized by our department. Recently, a joint international workshop was held with Balkan universities, and as a result of this workshop, a joint Turkish Language Program was launched with Kosovo Pristina University. Our efforts in this framework will continue in the coming years. Students who graduate from our department can work as teachers in the Ministry of National Education, they can also work as educators in private schools and private teaching institutions. They can also find jobs in Turkish teaching centers, which are very popular today. In addition, our students, who have improved themselves in Ottoman Turkish while studying in the department, have the opportunity to work in the manuscripts section and the archives of the libraries. Graduates of our department can also work as editors in publishing houses. The students who will prefer our department should consider first whether or not they have a substantial interest in Turkish literature if they wish to be successful during their education process in our department. Our university offers dormitory opportunities for students coming from outside the city. In addition, Edirne is a quiet and livable city, so our students who rent a house can continue their education life in a peaceful way. We would be very happy to see you among us. I wish success to all students who will take the exam.
