Teaching English
Hello dear students, I am Sezgin Kondal. I have been working in Trakya University, Faculty of Education, Department of English Language Education for many years. Our department offers a 4-year undergraduate program. It provides education for 8 semesters in total. In addition, our students are required to pass the preparatory grade. Students who are successful in the preparatory exemption exam at the beginning of the semester can start from the first grade directly. In addition, those who have a valid English language certificate equivalent to 75 points from YDS (Foreign Grammar Level Determination Exam) are considered successful in this exam. In our department, we offer courses in three main categories. These are; field courses, vocational knowledge courses and general culture courses. We also have elective courses. Examples from the field courses include courses such as Language Acquisition and Speaking Skills. Vocational knowledge courses include courses such as Production Technologies. Finally, for general culture lessons, German and Atatürk's principles and Revolution History courses can be given as examples. We have lecture halls and regular classrooms belonging to our department. These classes are used jointly by both the German Language Education and the English Language Education Departments. In addition, there is a common drama workshop used by the departments in our faculty. Internship practice in our department is available in both terms during the 4th grade. Our students can do their internships at primary, secondary and high schools, affiliated to the Ministry of National Education. In the 4th grade, one day a week is usually reserved for this internship. Our students develop their teaching skills in these environments. Our students have the opportunity to study at universities abroad within the framework of the Erasmus program. Every year, dozens of our students have the chance to attend this program and go to countries such as the Netherlands, Germany, and Bulgaria and receive education from the programs there. The students of our department contribute to many activities. Particularly within the scope of community service courses, our students actively participate in NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations) and contribute actively to their overseas projects and activities. To give an example, an NGO named EDOSK (Edirne Nature Sports Club) in Edirne organizes a big cycling festival in the second week of May every year. Hundreds of cyclists from Greece and Bulgaria come to this festival. Our students take an active role in this festival and contribute greatly to the success of this event. Our students basically have the opportunity to work in the schools of the Ministry of National Education. Especially since the number of English teachers needed is high, our graduates can easily find employment opportunities. In addition, our graduates can work in private schools and private teaching institutions. We also know that in recent years, some of our students have applied to airline companies such as Turkish Airlines and become cabin attendants. Candidates who prefer our department, if you feel the need to improve your basic English skills, please do not hesitate to attend the preparatory grade. We have a very strong teaching staff in the preparatory grade. If you want to have a successful educational life, our support will always be with you and all the opportunities here will be at your disposal. Our city and university are student friendly and provide you with dozens of opportunities. For example, around 10 thousand students can reside in the dormitories of KYK. In addition, our university invites you to dozens of opportunities and events within the scope of SKS, Health, Culture and Sports Department. You can participate in activities such as photography and diving. In addition, we have swimming pools and sports fields. So, there are so many possibilities to spend your free time. If you want to live in a historical city with a strong teaching staff, and an enjoyable campus, we will take great pleasure in seeing you among us. We welcome you all to our university. Welcome!
