Faculty Of Dentistry
Hello everyone, I'm Ahmet Berke Candan. I am a senior student at Pamukkale University, Faculty of Dentistry. Dentistry is a field of medicine that examines the diseases of the mouth and teeth. We can divide the courses in dentistry into two. There are medical courses that we call basic sciences, and clinical sciences courses that we call clinical sciences. Courses such as Pedodontics, Orthodontics, Restoratives, and Endodontics are clinical sciences; courses such as Physiology, Histology, and Microbiology are basic sciences. At the same time, our courses in Dentistry are again divided into two as Theoretical and Practical. This is how our curriculum is organized. The Phantom Laboratory that we are in now and that we use in the 3rd grade consists of models in which patient mouths are simulated. By using these models in this laboratory, we prepare ourselves for the preclinical stage. We also have a Preclinical Laboratory that we use in the 1st and 2nd grades. In this laboratory, we take the basic applied courses of Dentistry and prepare ourselves for the Phantom Laboratory. There are 8 clinical must courses we take in dentistry; these courses are placed in the 4th and 5th academic year of the curriculum. In these courses there are real patients. Even Though this period is not called internship, it technically is. That is how we practice real-life situations. After graduation we take an exam called DUS; with the exam, dentists get specialized in certain fields and get 3 or 4 more years of education. A graduate who is not specialized may be entitled to work in private polyclinics, universities, or public institutions affiliated to the Ministry of Health. Dentistry is a highly respected profession in the society. It is of such good importance that it will never lose its validity. In fact, it is a section of high importance in terms of public health. That's why I wanted to study dentistry. I chose Pamukkale University because of its deep-rooted history of 30 years, its well-established campus layout, and its socio-cultural activities. Throughout the dentistry program, I have benefited many times from our laboratories, our clinic, the knowledge and experience of research assistants and faculty members, the library of the Faculty of Medicine, as well as the central library in our university. I want to be a specialist dentist by undergoing 3 or 4 more years of training in a field that I love by taking the DUS, namely the Dental Specialization Exams. After I become a Specialist Dentist, I want to advance in this path by opening a private clinic. The Dentistry program has a very difficult curriculum due to the intensity of the theoretical and practical courses. If you say you can cope with this challenging curriculum, you should study dentistry. I recommend Pamukkale University, which is a well-established university, to all candidates. I wish success to all candidates who will take the university exam.
