Department of Mechanical Engineering
Greetings, my name is Professor Harun MINDIVAN, and I serve as the head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University. Our department, established in 2007, has quickly become one of the strongest departments in our engineering faculty due to its rapid growth and development. Within our department, we offer programs in construction and manufacturing, energy, mechanics, thermodynamics and heat technology, machine theory and technique. Our undergraduate students are required to take courses in these areas, along with technical elective courses to further enhance their knowledge in their field of interest.
At our industrial-based vocational education application and research center, students can take advantage of courses such as PLC (programmable logic controller), hydraulics, pneumatics, mechatronics, and robotics. This enables them to gain technical knowledge and expertise in their respective fields before they graduate. Compulsory courses in our department include materials science, engineering materials, construction methods, statics, dynamics, strength, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, machine elements, mechanism technique, machine theory and dynamics, and heat transfer. We have 8 laboratories equipped with modern devices that are primarily used by graduate and doctorate students, but are also open to undergraduate students.
Our department's research projects receive support from various sources such as TÜBİTAK, Ministry of Industry and Technology, BEBKA Development Agency, and more. This enables us to keep our laboratories up to date with the latest equipment and technology. We conduct interdisciplinary research studies, micromechanical and electromechanical systems studies, and robotics studies.
To prepare our students for their future careers, we require them to complete internships during their second and third years. This includes 20 days of zoning procedures, 20 days of factory facility and organization internships, and 40 days of compulsory internships. Successful students with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher can gain industry experience by selecting vocational education and applied courses in business during their 8th semester. Additionally, our fourth year students can prepare their graduation projects with faculty members based on their interests. We have also supported projects within the scope of TÜBİTAK university students research projects support program and TÜBİTAK industry-oriented undergraduate research projects support program.
Our students have the opportunity to study abroad through the ERASMUS program, where they can complete a certain part of their education in countries that have bilateral agreements with our department. Moreover, they can participate in the ERASMUS internship program from two to twelve months at any education level by receiving a grant. There is no requirement for an inter-institutional agreement or ERASMUS declaration for higher education in the internship mobility of the ERASMUS program. An individual student internship agreement involving the relevant parties is sufficient.
Our department welcomes new students with a special event, and hosts alumni-student events throughout the year. Students can also benefit from opportunities such as factory visits and career planning activities through student clubs, the mechanical engineers room, and technology transfer office. Mechanical engineering covers a wide range of topics, including fluid mechanics, energy, materials, robotics, and automotive engineering, and our department offers all the basic courses necessary to support these fields of study, as well as optional courses for students who wish to specialize further. Our graduates are employed in industries such as automotive, energy, machinery, manufacturing, aerospace, and defense. We also offer double major programs with electrical and electronic engineering, computer engineering, and civil engineering departments, as well as opportunities for research in areas such as robotics and coating technology. Students may experience challenges in certain courses such as strength, thermodynamics, machine elements, and numerical methods, but our instructors are readily available to assist students in overcoming these challenges. Fluency in English is highly advantageous for students, and our department provides an optional preparatory class for English language proficiency. Furthermore, learning design and analysis programs is crucial for students interested in finding employment in the industry after graduation, and our department has the infrastructure and experienced faculty members necessary to teach these programs. Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University offers a diverse range of opportunities for students, including an indoor area of approximately 5,000 square meters for our students, study halls and group study rooms, counseling services, and student clubs for 56 different fields. In addition, our campus has a football field, athletics track, carpet pitch, outdoor sports facilities, indoor sports hall, pilates and aerobics hall, and health center available for student use. The university is located just three kilometers from the city center, with easy access to transportation to and from the campus, as well as proximity to other cities via high-speed train and Bursa Yenişehir Airport. We welcome and invite all students who are interested in mechanical engineering to join us at Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University.
