Department of Mathematics
Greetings, dear young individuals! My name is Associate Professor Tuğba YURDAKADİM, Vice President of the Department of Mathematics at Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University's Faculty of Science. Our department has been active since 2010 and produced its first graduates in 2014. Since 2018, we have launched master's programs and, since 2020, doctorate programs under the Department of Mathematics of the Graduate Education Institute, which is within our university.
Within a short period of time, we have accomplished significant work and have a strong academic staff. Our department has six sub-disciplines: geometry, topology, analysis and theory of functions, algebra and number theory, applied mathematics, and fundamentals of mathematics and logic. We have experienced and competent academic staff for each of these sub-disciplines.
We offer non-field elective and technical elective courses in accordance with the interests of our sub-disciplines. Additionally, in the 7th and 8th semesters, students can choose courses of interest outside of their fields of study. In the 8th semester, we offer a course that prepares students for graduate education with a research project.
Our courses are generally taught in our classrooms within the faculty, and we use appropriate laboratories for courses requiring computers. Our department does not offer internships or graduation applications. However, we teach a research project course in the 8th semester, which we believe is beneficial in preparing students for graduate education.
Students who take suitable elective courses for pedagogical formation education and complete these courses can apply for a teaching internship. Mevlana and ERASMUS Programs are available for our students to study abroad under the supervision of our coordinator teachers.
We occasionally host workshops and conferences and provide information seminars when necessary. Our primary goal for our students in the mathematics department is to train individuals who will continue their postgraduate education and life as researchers. However, students can find job opportunities in fields such as banking, finance, economics, and teaching with the complementary education they will receive and the elective and non-field courses they choose.
Mathematics is a fundamental science, and our students typically understand the operation and logic of the courses within 1-2 months. Additionally, students who come to our department with a solid foundation in mathematics tend to adapt more quickly to the lessons.
Should students encounter any issues, they can always reach out to their advisors and us for assistance. My advice to prospective students who are considering our department is to understand that our primary goal is to train students who wish to pursue graduate education and become scientists. They should also know that a basic education in mathematics, coupled with various complementary trainings, can lead to a variety of future career paths.
Lastly, mathematics is a slightly more challenging science than other subjects. Therefore, students who have a genuine passion for mathematics are more likely to enjoy their studies in our department. Our university is located in Bilecik, which is the only neighboring province to the Marmara, Black Sea, Central Anatolia, and Aegean Regions simultaneously. As a result, it is conveniently located close to major cities like Istanbul, Eskişehir, Bursa, and Ankara. Our university has a young academic staff, strong teaching infrastructure, dynamic campus, and welcomes students with open arms.
We wish all students success in their university entrance exams and look forward to welcoming them to the Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University, Faculty of Science, Department of Mathematics.
