Department of Nursing
Greetings, I am Associate Professor Burcu BAYRAK KAHRAMAN, and I am the Head of Nursing Department at Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University, Faculty of Health Sciences. Our department was established in 2013 and has been providing undergraduate level education to students since then. Our nursing education program adheres to the nursing core education program in our country, with the first year dedicated to fundamental medical sciences, such as anatomy, physiology and biochemistry. Subsequent years are dedicated to nursing education-specific courses, including nursing fundamentals, internal medicine nursing, surgical nursing, obstetrics and gynecology nursing, child health and diseases nursing, psychiatric nursing, and public health nursing. Our curriculum also features elective courses to support students' professional development in areas such as intensive care nursing, operating room nursing, rational drug use, and statistical research methods. To facilitate practical learning, we have two laboratories in our department. Our anatomy laboratory is equipped with models that allow students to learn in detail about the human body, including its parts, muscles, joints, and nerves. Our nursing laboratory is designed for students to practice their nursing skills, which they develop from their first-year nursing fundamentals course until graduation. This laboratory helps students develop their skills before they come into contact with patients during clinical practice. Our students have the opportunity to practice in many institutions before graduation. These application areas generally consist of primary, secondary, and tertiary health institutions affiliated with the provincial health directorate in our province, as well as private institutions, factories, nursing homes, and schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education. Our department also participates in the ERASMUS student exchange program, allowing our students to exchange with universities in Portugal, Lithuania, and Poland, with whom we have agreements. Students can also benefit from the ERASMUS program by passing a language exam and completing one or more departmental semesters at a partner university.
As the Nursing Department, we strive to organize a range of conferences and seminars each year to mark important health-related events. One such celebration we hold is Nursing Week, which takes place annually on May 12th and is observed around the world. At Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University's Faculty of Health Sciences Nursing Department, we make a point of marking this occasion by hosting conferences. In addition to Nursing Week, our department and its students and faculty advisors organize various events throughout the year to coincide with important health-related days and weeks. These can include webinars on breastfeeding or conferences aimed at raising awareness about salt consumption. Graduates from our program are eligible to work in a variety of settings, including institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Health, medical device and pharmaceutical companies, insurance companies, private rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, and schools. After completing their undergraduate degree, our students may pursue graduate or doctoral education and become part of a university's academic staff. When our students first begin their nursing education, they typically take courses in basic medical sciences. These courses can pose a challenge to students as they are introduced to new health concepts and nursing education. To support our students, we offer opportunities for them to make up lessons with their advisors and repeat courses with the lecturer and staff in charge of the course in the laboratory. In addition, we provide support through videos and demonstrations, especially for skills training when our students are facing difficulties. Communication is a crucial skill in the nursing profession, as it is fundamentally based on human relationships. Therefore, we advise our nursing students to improve their communication skills, as well as to develop qualities such as empathy, responsibility, and discipline. Our university offers highly qualified opportunities for students from outside Bilecik, including academic staff, physical equipment, laboratories, and a library. We prioritize student-oriented education and provide a range of social and scientific communities where students can be active. This enables our students to pursue their interests while studying and improve themselves in their chosen fields. In conclusion, we encourage prospective nursing students to consider Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University's Nursing Department within the Faculty of Health Sciences. We wish success to all candidates taking the university exam and extend a warm welcome to our department.
