Electrical and Electronics Engineering
Hello. I am Prof. Dr. Zehra SARAÇ. I work as a faculty member in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Istanbul Medeniyet University. I also serve as the department chair of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering program. The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Istanbul Medeniyet University started providing education and training in 2015, and it is still continuing its activities at the North Campus of Istanbul Medeniyet University. Generally, the courses offered in our department cover the fundamental subjects of electrical and electronics engineering. These courses can be broadly classified into theoretical and applied courses. Our theoretical courses are based on circuit theory and electromagnetic field theory. However, our applied courses cover various topics related to the practice of electrical and electronics engineering, such as communication, control, automation, microwave technology, optoelectronics, and electronics. In our Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, we have a significant number of applied courses. Along with these applied courses, we also offer laboratory sessions. We have ample laboratory facilities for conducting these laboratory sessions. Compared to other universities that offer engineering education, we have a considerable number of laboratories. These laboratories range from electrical machinery and communication to electronics, electrical circuits, and even computer laboratories. In addition to our undergraduate laboratories, we also have special laboratories within the Istanbul Medeniyet University BİLTAM (Science and Advanced Technology Application and Research Center) for postgraduate education, including master's and doctoral programs. We also provide a Master's and a Ph.D. program. Our students have two mandatory internships as part of their graduation projects. These internships are carried out during the second and third years of their studies. Our students apply to various companies for internships. In fact, some students start working even from their second year. This allows our students to gain work experience and employment opportunities even before completing their professional education. Additionally, we have graduation projects where our students participate in Master's level projects with us, further enhancing their academic, theoretical, and practical education. As a result, they can easily find a job upon graduation. Our department offers a wide range of international opportunities. We are part of exchange programs such as ERASMUS and Mevlana, which are coordinated by our department. Students have the chance to pursue internships abroad if they wish. With ERASMUS, they can travel to various European countries and continue their education there for a semester. In addition to that, as I mentioned earlier, they can also complete their internships in any company abroad and have them recognized here. We have international collaborations with professors from different countries, where they work together and our students have the opportunity to join these international teams. In terms of career prospects, our graduates have a wide range of options. Firstly, they can work in the field of electrical engineering, particularly in power distribution and renewable energy. They can also find employment in the areas of telecommunications and electronics, as well as in control systems where there is a strong emphasis on automation. Moreover, those with programming skills can work as software developers in software companies as well as in electronics and electrical engineering firms. It is common for our students to face some challenges in theoretical courses, and we provide guidance and support to help them overcome these difficulties. Because lately there seems to be a general aversion to theoretical courses. However, we strongly believe that an engineer must take theoretical courses. By starting from theoretical courses, we guarantee that they will be able to solve problems with an engineer's mindset. Therefore, we insistently help and guide them on how to study for their theoretical courses. Istanbul Medeniyet University particularly welcomes students from other cities. As you know, Istanbul is truly a significant commercial and technological center. There are abundant job opportunities in this center. Is it easier for someone who has graduated from another city to come to Istanbul, settle here, understand the city, and find a job? Or is it easier for our engineering graduates to find a job during their internships? The answer is certainly in favor of our graduates. That's why a university in a city like this is an advantage for our students. Therefore, we eagerly await students from other cities. My advice to prospective students who will choose our department is to come and experience an education in a department with abundant laboratory facilities and a young, dynamic teaching staff. I guarantee that they will receive the education they desire in such a department. And as I mentioned, they should know that they can find a job while receiving a high-quality education. I wish success to all students who will take the university entrance exam. We are waiting for all of you at Istanbul Medeniyet University, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
