Computer Engineering

Hello, I am Prof. Dr. dem KARAHOCA. I am the head of the Department of Computer Engineering. The Department of Computer Engineering has been continuing education since the 2018-2019 academic year. We have given our first graduates in the 2022-2023 academic year. The department of computer engineering continues its education by sharing between hardware and software departments. In our computer engineering department: there are courses related to software, hardware and network. Our software courses are divided into groups such as data structures, system programming, basic programming and advanced programming. Our hardware courses microprocessors and circuits. Our network courses are based on today's mobile networks and wireless networks. There are 30 PCs (Personal Computer) in the computer engineering department. These PCs can be used for advanced operations. In addition, our students benefit from electronics and mechanical engineering laboratories, especially in electronic circuits and robotics. The students of our department, provided that they are on computer software and computer hardware, do 2 internships in the summer semesters of the second and third year. At the same time, in the last year, they prepare a specialisation project under the name of graduation homework in both semesters. They present these projects especially in advanced competitions such as TÜBİTAK (Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey) and Teknofest. Our students from the Department of Computer Engineering have the opportunity to receive international education with ERASMUS. In this context, they can go to the exchange programme for 1 or 2 semesters, especially in Poland, Bulgaria, Latvia and other universities in the Balkans. There are two conferences organised by the Department of Computer Engineering such as Work Conference On IT and International Conference on Big Data Analytics. Under my chairmanship, the conferences are both organised and attended by our academicians and students. Our students can work in the telecommunication sector in the relevant units of TÜBİTAK (Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey) and TAI (Turkish Aerospace Industries Corporation), especially after graduation, both in terms of internship and finding a job. In addition, they can work as both software developers and hardware designers in the IT departments of banks and holdings. Computer engineering students may have problems especially in basic programming and advanced mathematics. In order to overcome the problems faced by our students in such courses, we provide project-based education and accelerate their learning. Istanbul Medeniyet University is at the hub (central) subway, metrobus and similar transportation vehicles in terms of transportation. Therefore, access is very easy. In addition, thanks to our newly completed library, we offer our students the opportunity to study 24 hours a day in one of the most comprehensive and largest libraries in Turkey. The participation and support of our students in various projects within the scope of clubs is organised by both their professors and the administration. I would like to emphasise that Istanbul Medeniyet University is a state university. I would also like to inform you that the education given in our department is of a quality that will provide our students with job opportunities after the third year and that the curriculum of the department is renewed every year. Thus, our students will be able to provide a development that will support their master's and doctoral studies both abroad and in Turkey.
