Physics Engineering
Hello, I am Prof. Dr. Hayriye SUNDU PAMUK. Since February 2023, I have been working as a lecturer at Istanbul Medeniyet University, Department of Physical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences. The aim of our department is to train physical engineers who have the necessary knowledge and equipment in the field of technology and science in our country, who can catch and even increase international competition in this sense, who know their responsibilities, who are innovative and entrepreneurial, who can think analytically and critically. In the other context, we aim to educate graduates who can transform the researches in our university into technological products and catch the concepts of what we call the third generation university, where universities can establish companies or become partners in companies. In another aspect, we attach importance to organising project-based social activities in order to increase interest and knowledge in the field of physics. When we look at our 4-year course curriculum, our courses are divided into 2 as compulsory and elective courses. Our students can take elective courses from their own physics engineering department as well as from other engineering fields or departmental courses in other faculties. In this sense, we aim to enable students to graduate in a way that they can improve themselves or be trained in their field of interest. We have many laboratories in the undergraduate programme. We have laboratories in which almost all the theoretical courses given in the undergraduate programme can be applied. For example: mechanics, electricity, magnetism, advanced physics, modern physics laboratories are available. Our students gain better experience by applying the knowledge they have learnt in theoretical courses in these laboratories. Considering our 4-year course curriculum, we have internship and graduation projects. In particular, our students carry out their graduation projects by taking part in the scientific projects of our professors in the research laboratories within our university. In this context, students gain the necessary infrastructure on how a research study can be carried out. We have ERASMUS agreements with many universities in many countries. Our students can go to universities with ERASMUS agreements for 6 months to 1 year and continue their education there. We aim to increase our ERASMUS agreements day by day. We also aim to invite guest lecturers from abroad so that our students can take the necessary courses and presentations from these guest lecturers. The responsibility projects carried out by the faculty members of our department in partnership with the Ministry of National Education are quite high. It continues to increase day by day. In addition, national and international physics festivals and physics events have been organised and are planned to be organised. Our graduates have a wide range of job opportunities. They can work as researchers in the research and development departments of industrial organisations as well as academically. They can also work in the education sector, technology sector and many other sectors. As a matter of fact, when we look at our database, we see that our graduate students work in many different sectors and in many different positions. We do not think that our students have much difficulty in the lessons. Because when we look at our course curriculum, the courses have been put as a continuation of each other; that is, the previous course forms the infrastructure of the next course. However, in the courses that our students have difficulties, our professors set a meeting time for the students for each course. They can come during these hours and obtain the necessary information and course resources from our professors. First of all, I would like to state the following: Istanbul Medeniyet University is one of the 23 research universities selected by YÖK (Higher Education Council). Our students can benefit from the opportunities provided by this research university. In addition, Istanbul Medeniyet University is located in a very central location in Istanbul. I think this will provide a great advantage for students. Our department has a young, dynamic, knowledgeable and well-informed teaching staff. In this context, we provide a very high quality education. In addition, we are in a reputable place with academic studies at the international level. We aim to be a pioneer in the physics engineering department. I recommend students who will prefer us to benefit from this infrastructure. I wish success to the candidates who will pass the exam. We are waiting for them to the Department of Physics Engineering at Istanbul Medeniyet University Engineering and Natural Sciences.
