Hello friends, my name is Muhlis Cem Ar. I am a faculty member at Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa, Department of Internal Diseases and Hematology. I received my diploma as the first graduate of Cerrahpaşa English Faculty of Medicine in 1993. Today I want to give you information about Cerrahpaşa English Faculty of Medicine. Cerrahpaşa English Medicine Program was founded in 1987 and is a well-established program. It is a program that has been continuing uninterrupted since 1987 and has had international accreditation since 2012. The diplomas we give to our students are valid abroad. Cerrahpaşa English Medicine Program is not very different from the Turkish Medicine Program, only the education languages ​​are different. Theoretical courses are given in English for the first 3 years. After taking theoretical courses, our students move on to the clinical field. In the clinical field, we provide our courses in Turkish. The important advantages of studying Medicine in Cerrahpaşa English are many. You can learn and speak about medicine in English, follow the medical literature and be more active in foreign affairs. Our Erasmus agreement is available for 24 different countries. Many students come to our university and faculty from countries such as Germany, France, England, Greece and Poland. Our students also go to the universities abroad from our university. Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine English Program’s duration is 6 years, however, if you do not know English, you have to study for an additional year. English Placement Exam is held when you arrive, and if you pass this exam, you can begin your training. If you do not pass, you have to study for a year and your enrolment in the Faculty of Medicine is extended by 1 year. You should think of this as a gain because you start to learn a language. You develop this language by using it during the 6 years you are here. Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine English Program does not differ from the Turkish Medicine Program in terms of content. The only difference is the language of instruction. Generally, Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Medicine Program is a little different from other medical faculties, you start to see patients even in the first 3 years of learning the Basic Sciences. We have an integrated program. We are trying to provide this by combining Basic Sciences and Clinical Sciences. The first grade is the easiest year because once you come out of a busy exam schedule, you can think of Grade 1 as the transition period. Here you can find more free time, you can take elective courses to improve yourself. Gradually, there is a transition to the basic sciences courses. We begin to offer the Anatomy courses in last semester of the first year. The main difference between our faculty and the others in Turkey, is that we offer the Anatomy courses for three years.
Another feature of Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine is its great social clubs. Among these social clubs, the Student Scientific Research Club (ÖBAK) is the most popular club. The Student Scientific Research Club has been organizing International Medicine Student Days for approximately 15 years, hosted by Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa. This congress is attended by many students and scientists from Turkey and abroad. Our congress was last held last year and was carried out successfully. This program provides great opportunities for students to present their research and to meet with many peers, colleagues or teachers from abroad and to carry out joint projects in the future. The most advantageous thing about the Faculty of Medicine is that the students do not have difficulty in finding a job after graduating. If you don't want to be a doctor, you can work in many sectors with a medical degree. You can work in pharmaceutical companies, medical and medical consultancy firms or insurance organizations. Being a doctor is not a profession that one can continue without passion. Because you will be dealing with people and when you make mistakes, you can cause irreversible events. You should do it with love, willingness and pleasure. Those who will choose this line of work should love people, be tolerant, be able to listen well and communicate well. Our University's Faculty of Medicine provides these trainings to our students. We provide training on communication techniques, how to understand and communicate with the patient. The thing that we cannot do is to teach how to love people. If you do not like people, you cannot progress in this profession. If you think you can do it, nothing can stand in your way. You should always have an endless curiosity. You must always read and question. Medical education will never end, and it will always continue as long as people exist. Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine is an attractive place, as it is located in Istanbul. Istanbul is a lively city in which there are many things that one can do culturally, socially and sports related. Our students can live freely in Istanbul. Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine is in a very central location. It is located in Fatih, the heart of Istanbul, which we call the old city. It is very close to historical places, cultural places, entertainment centers and sports fields. Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine has many features that distinguishes it as a Faculty of Medicine. Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine is not only a school but also a faculty that has a certain attitude. After you graduate from Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty, you graduate as part of a large family. Most of our faculty members working in many newly established faculties are our professors who graduated from Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty.
