Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering
Hello guys, my name is Fırat Kaçar. I am the Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Istanbul University – Cerrahpaşa. First as a student, I worked as a Research Assistant, then Assistant Professor, then Associate Professor and since 2017 as a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. I have been serving as the head of the department since 2018. Our department began providing education and training in 1989. We have established the English Program in the 2010-2011 academic year. At least 30% of our courses are provided in English. There are 5 main disciplines in our department. These are electronics, telecommunications, control and command systems, biomedical and electrical facilities. Apart from these, our program continues providing education with 14 faculty members, 11 research assistants and 3 engineers in our department. In addition to these, many European Union Projects, TUBITAK Projects and Scientific Research Projects have been carried out in our department and are still ongoing. As I emphasized before, 30% of the courses are provided in English, however, if students wan to, they can increase this rate with elective courses to up to 50%. Beginning in the third grade, our students can choose elective courses according to their interests, such as Electrical and Electronic Communication Programs. Since the last year consists of elective courses, students are able to both work and carry on with their education. There is a total of 8 laboratories in our department. Electrical and Electronics Engineering is a department based on practice. We have a Computer Laboratory, Circuit Laboratory, Communication Laboratory, Aref-Microwave Laboratory, Control Laboratory, Industrial Product Design Laboratory and High Voltage-Electrical Machines Laboratory. In addition to these, we have two separate workshops for alternative energy vehicle studies carried out in our department. There is a mandatory internship of 50 workdays in our department. We make the necessary effort for our students to complete their internships in distinguished companies. Especially our graduates, the Electrical Engineering Chamber and faculty members in our department provide the necessary support to our students. Let me provide some information on the graduation project. Our students can gather in two groups and some of them can focus more on a certain theoretical subject, while the other group can take practical assignments on design products.
Thanks to the bilateral agreements made by universities, we have Erasmus agreements with distinguished universities in Europe. We have made agreements with universities in Germany, France, Sweden, Finland and Bulgaria. Many seminars, courses and career days are organized by the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Club of our department. We have two different alternative purpose groups within our department. These are Hydrogen Energy Vehicles and Electric Vehicles. Within these groups, we have a team named Milat. They won many awards in many competitions held in Turkey and abroad. Electrical and Electronics Engineering is becoming more and more important every day with the digitalization of technology and the changes happening all around the world. It is among the top 6 among the 11 priority fields published by the European Union. With the ever-increasing digitalization, our students can work comfortably in all companies such as in the production of electricity and the production, development and design of the electronic devices we use. Our students often encounter some difficulties in their basic vocational courses. All of our fellow faculty members arrange meeting days with the students and provide the necessary support with the practices we have undertaken in the courses, experiments and simulations. I would like to state that they are choosing an important department. The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering has become an increasingly popular department. We want our students to focus not only on the important courses, but all the courses. Besides these, they can also take part in some projects part time by working in seminars, and courses. While studying in the Department of Electrical and Electronics offered by our university, our students can work both as students and as student assistants. Students who take part in the Sciences Research Project carried out by our lecturers always contribute to their own development. Let me list the benefits provided by our university. Besides the accommodation, dining hall, sports and social facilities, students can work in the Small and Medium Industry Development Organization (KOSGEB) located on our campus and companies in Technopolis, and they will have the advantage of finding a job easily when they graduate. I wish success to all students who will choose Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
