Faculty of Forestry - Landscape Architecture

Hello friends. I am Vedat Beşkardeş. I am the Vice Dean of Istanbul University - Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Forestry. There are 3 departments in our faculty. In order of establishment, these are the Forest Engineering Department, Forest Industrial Engineering Department and Landscape Architecture Department. In the Forest Engineering Department courses such as Silviculture Technique, Forest Management, Forest Revenue, Forest Entomology are offered. The most important courses in Landscape Architecture are the Project courses. Courses such as Project 2, Project 3, Project 4 play an important role in the training of landscape architects. In the Forest Industrial Engineering Department courses such as Timber Industry, Automation and Autocad are offered. In our department there are laboratories such as Wood Anatomy Laboratory and Nanotechnology Laboratory. We have a drawing room in the building next to Landscape Architecture Department. Our students spend their time holding meetings, studying various applications and completing projects in this hall. In the Forest Engineering Department, students use the Herbarium, Forest Products Chemistry and General Chemistry Laboratory together. In each department, students in the 4th grade have to complete their graduation internship. Our students complete their summer internships in the 2nd and 3rd grade. We have made Erasmus agreements with 5 countries. These are Austria, Slovenia University of Ljubljana, Greece Kavala University, Czech Republic Life Sciences University, Czech Republic Mendel University. Every year, our students gain the right to go to these countries by contacting us. Our faculty is a member of 2 international organizations. The employment opportunities of each of the 3 departments are different from each other. Students who graduate from the Department of Forest Engineering can generally work in places such as the General Directorate of Forestry, National Parks and Private Forestry Offices. Forest Industrial Engineering Department students mostly work in factories part of the wood industry, furniture industry, parquet, laminate and lumber. Our Landscape Architecture Department students can work in landscape architecture offices, municipalities, parks and gardens.
Although the courses in which the students have difficulties are different, the courses they like the most are the applied courses. In our faculty, students can follow the courses with great pleasure, as the applied courses are quite intensive. I would like to make different recommendations for our 3 departments within the Faculty of Forestry. Nature lovers can choose Forest Engineering. Those who have architectural design skills can choose Landscape Architecture. Students who love woodwork can choose Forest Industry Engineering. In our faculty, they can spend their days very comfortably in a forest which is 14 hectares. Students can use our workshops, drawing rooms and laboratories whenever they want. In our faculty, our students can complete their program experiencing the forest and experiencing the nature. I wish success to all my fellow students who will choose our faculty.
