Department of Computer Engineering

Hello, I'm Lecturer Oğuzhan Öztaş. I am working as a lecturer in the Computer Engineering Department. I teach courses on software in the Software Engineering Department. I am also the Deputy Head of the department. There are 4 main disciplines in the Computer Engineering Department. These are Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cyber ​​Security, Hardware and Customs Systems. We have 18 faculty members and 7 assistants in our department. There are elective courses which are included in the second-year program of this department. Elective courses are regularly revised every 2-3 years according to today's technologies. Our school provides 30% English education and we have elective courses in the last year. You will choose courses in line with your field and interests. In our department, we have two clubs, the Computer Club and the Cyber ​​Club. The club activities include both educational activities and technical training, and our students can participate in these activities. From the first year on, we have technical courses such as Introduction Algorithms, and Describe Mathematics. The contents of our English courses are also in English. Beginning with the second grade, there are more vocational courses such as Data Structures, Logic Circuits, and Computing. We have two software labs with 50 computers each. We create applications in our microprocessor and hardware laboratories. Likewise, training is given in our laboratories on the computer networks established by the Huawaei company. After many requests were made, tests are now performed on IoT (Internet of Things) devices to test their security features in project development laboratories.
Our internships are completed within 50 workdays in total. These 50 workdays are divided into software and hardware periods. Our students can complete this in 25-25 days each or 30-20 days each. We display all announcements we receive on our board for the students. Students can check the boards and our website and apply to any of the offers sent to us. Apart from that, our students can arrange their internships themselves. As a part of the Erasmus program, we have agreements with European countries such as Bulgaria, Sweden and Poland. Our students can go to these universities and study for one or two semesters. The courses they take there are accepted back here and are equivalent to the courses they take here. Students who graduate from our department can work in different companies in the IT (Information Technology) sector at home and abroad. Since the computer is used extensively nowadays, they can easily find jobs in all kinds of companies. There is an incubation center in Technopolis located in our campus. Here, they can make an attempt to establish their own companies by realizing their own government-supported projects. Our courses are quite basic in the first grade. Usually students from high school do not have much difficulty in the first grade. There are also first grade courses which serve as an introduction to technical courses. Students will not have much trouble as they will take more vocation-based courses starting from the second grade. I recommend that they work regularly. When they do not understand the material, they can ask the department professors and assistants without hesitation and work from different sources. My advice to the friends who will choose our department is to choose the courses and study having in mind the job they want to do in the future. After completing their training in the department, I recommend that they take the necessary steps to establish their own business. As Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa, our campus is located on the Avcılar Campus. We also have a campus in Hadımköy. This place is a part of the Istanbul's metrobus network. On the campus there are dormitories, a cafeteria, social activity areas and a gym. I wish success to the students who will choose Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa.
