Nutrition and Dietetics

Hello, I'm İrem Duman. I am a second-year student of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Health Sciences. The aim of our department is to protect and improve public health and to train dieticians in the light of science and ethical values. In the first year, we take common courses such as Atatürk's Principles and History of Revolution, and Turkish Literature. Apart from these, we also take basic courses such as anatomy and physiology. In the second year, we take courses such as biochemistry, microbiology, food chemistry, and we also choose elective courses according to our interests. In the 3rd year, we learn how to prescribe a diet and how to eat while suffering from different diseases. We are doing an internship in our 4th year. There are nutrition and dietetics laboratories in our department and we teach the practical parts of our courses in laboratories. Our department provides us with internship opportunities in the summer of the 3rd year and throughout the 4th year. We can do these internships in hospitals that our school has contracted with and in other places we want. After graduation, we can work in the Ministry of Health, in the private sector, in nursing homes for the elderly, and in the food sector. We can also work as an educational dietitian in educational institutions and as a research dietitian in research institutions. As in these examples, we can work wherever the human health is concerned. It has always been my dream to study in a department related to health. When I realized that the first step of health is through proper nutrition, I decided to become a dietitian. I chose the University of Health Sciences due to the fact that our school is a health-based university and it offers many internship opportunities. After graduation, I aim to pursue a master's degree. After working in various institutions related to my field and gaining experience, I want to continue my academic life. I recommend students who will prefer our school to take advantage of our university's internship opportunities. In addition, I can suggest that they read publications such as articles, books and magazines in which they can improve themselves. I wish good luck to those who will take the exam.
