Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation

Hello, I'm Rabia Akca. I am a 4th year student at the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at the University of Health Sciences. The Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation aims to develop, maintain and restore people's maximal level of movement. At the same time, our department also has buildings in Gülhane and Hamidiye campuses. The language of instruction in our department is Turkish and it consists of 8 semesters. First year courses of our department start from basic medical sciences. These are common courses taught in every health department. The lessons we take in the first year are generally based on anatomy and physiology. Apart from this, our 2nd year courses consist mostly of applied sciences. These are areas such as measurement-evaluation, manipulative therapy, and electrotherapy. When we move on to our 3rd grade classes, we move on to the rehabilitation phase and take the rehabilitation courses. For example, we have fields such as Pediatrics, neurology, and orthotics-prosthesis. In the 4th grade classes, we conduct more clinical studies and do internships. Of course, apart from this, we have two internships at the end of the 2nd and the 3rd year as summer internships. We start our laboratory studies from the 2nd year. We have courses such as measurement-evaluation, electrotherapy and manipulative therapy, which we take in the second year, in laboratories. We use these materials and therapeutic tools by working in groups. When we pass to the 3rd grade, we continue our Rehabilitation courses in a laboratory environment. Our graduation projects consists of two parts that we take in the 1st and 2nd semesters in the 4th grade. With the vast knowledge and experience of our consultants, we can present the project we want in the field we want to work for 2 semesters. When we successfully graduate from our department, we get the title of physiotherapist. There are 1st, 2nd and 3rd level health institutions and organizations that we can work with. However, according to the field we want to specialize in, we can work in areas such as pediatrics and neurology for rehabilitation centers. Apart from this, if we want to be a sports physiotherapist, we can work in sports clubs. I wanted to study in a field of health where I could specialize in different subjects. Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation was very attractive to me in terms of field diversity. That's why I chose this program. The University of Health Sciences offers us the ability to do internships in different fields. At the same time, in terms of academic staff, we have many experienced professors. That's why I wanted to choose this university. I want to specialize in the field of sports and pursue an academic career in this field and I want to be a specialist physiotherapist. I advise the candidates who will prefer our department and university not to skip the basic courses at the beginning, and to continue the applied courses in the later stages and to benefit from the internship opportunities of our university.
