Art History
Hello, I'm Elif Ecrin Deveci. I am a fourth year student studying Art History at Pamukkale University, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The Art History Department examines the development of historical objects in the context of art history. It aims to train scientists in the field of Byzantine art, Western art and Turkish Islamic arts. It is located in the Kınıklı campus.
We take courses such as Byzantine Art, Western Art, Turkish-Islamic Handicrafts, Ottoman Art, Mythology and Iconography, as well as Painting Handicrafts. We have workshops. In these workshops, we produce architectural drawings and carry out our work. Applying for an internship is optional. We have the opportunity to work in excavation sites and museums. After graduating from the department, we have the opportunity to work in excavation sites, museums and art workshops. In the past, we didn’t have the chance to work in excavation sites, now we can work in excavation sites for 3, 6 or even 12 months. This opens up more opportunities for work. I realized my interest in history in high school. Later, when I went to museums or visited historical sites, I realized my interest in Ottoman and Seljuk Art. I chose this department because I realized that I had an interest in Art History when I was doing research. I live in Denizli. When I researched the academic staff, I chose Pamukkale University because I saw that they have very well-equipped teachers. One of the greatest benefits of the department is that it offers us the opportunity to travel with our student card. We can visit museums and ancient cities for free, and this contributes a lot to our education. I want to carry on with my studies after graduating. If I can do a master's or doctorate, it would be great for my development. I recommend students who will choose our university and department to learn a foreign language or have an interest in foreign language. Because while doing research, there are not only Turkish sources, but also foreign sources. That's why I recommend learning a foreign language. Apart from that, I suggest that they try to think about sites in an analytical manner. If they are curious and enjoy visiting sites, they can be a good Art Historian candidate. In addition, since our courses are mainly visual, we inevitably awaken the desire to do research after we study. That's why I recommend reading. As Denizli is in the middle of the region, there are many sites. That's why there are so many places to visit. I recommend them to choose this place both because it is close to other cities and because it contains many historical artifacts. We welcome you all to Pamukkale University.
