Hello, my name is Ahmet Kadir Mert. I am a 4th year student at Pamukkale University, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Geography. Our department is located in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences on the Kınıklı campus, which is located right next to the city center of Denizli. The concern of our department is to train geographers who approach problems related to human and natural environment from a scientific point of view, who can analyze and propose solutions, who conduct research and projects on regional and global problems, who have a way of thinking based on geographical knowledge and the ability to use geographic information technologies. The courses given in our department are Climatology, Earth Science, Soil Geography, Geomorphology, which are courses that make up physical geography. We also have courses such as Urban Geography, Population Geography, Tourism Geography, Historical Geography, Economic Geography in the field of humanities. There are Geography Teaching and Research Methods courses in the field of geography education, and there are also field studies courses where they can learn about everything in practice. There are also Geographic Information Systems and Computer Usage courses that include geographic information technologies. In our department, we have to produce a graduation thesis in the 4th grade. Candidates who complete their thesis are entitled to graduate. Apart from job opportunities in the private sector, geographers graduated from our department can work in relevant public institutions and organizations, research institutions and universities. In addition, those who fulfill the pedagogical requirements can teach geography. The most important reason I chose the department comes from my interest in geography. This interest, which started in my high school years, was effective in making this choice. The reason why I chose Pamukkale University is the variety of opportunities offered by the University, its great academic staff and its location in a quiet city, Denizli. Among the opportunities offered by our department is the ERASMUS Student Exchange Program. Apart from this, we also benefit from the library services offered by our university. After graduating from my department, I want to continue my academic career by completing master's and doctorate studies. My advice to candidates who will choose this department is as follows. If you love nature as well as geography, this department is for you. If you want a great and enjoyable university life and are interested in sports, we welcome you all to Pamukkale University, which has Turkey's largest sports facility.
