Institute of Social Sciences

Greetings, I am Professor Bayram ŞAHİN. After completing my undergraduate studies in 2002, I pursued my master's and doctoral studies at Balıkesir University's Social Sciences Institute. From 2004 to 2022, I served as the deputy director of the institute, and since 2022, I have held the position of director. The roots of our university go back quite far. Balıkesir University, which operates under Uludağ University, commenced its educational journey in 1992. The Institute of Social Sciences, established in 1993, offers programs in the fields of social and human sciences, philology, fine arts, and theology. Within the institute, various programs are available, including literature, history, geography, educational sciences, tourism, business, economics, printing arts, painting, fine arts, and music.
The Institute of Social Sciences collaborates with numerous universities through exchange programs, enabling joint graduate programs. Similar to other fields, admission requirements for postgraduate studies in social sciences include the ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Examination) and foreign language exams, in addition to academic achievement. The institute has established cooperation agreements with several universities, particularly in the context of graduate programs. Accordingly, academic advisors from partner universities, both domestic and international, contribute to the students' research and supervise their studies. The institute supports thesis projects and publishes research findings through its journal, including international studies.
In addition to the criteria outlined in the admission regulations, courses taken in graduate programs are crucial for applicants seeking undergraduate or doctoral education. Balıkesir University operates within the framework of the Bologna process, ensuring seamless cooperation with other institutions. Our diplomas and diploma supplements hold international recognition. Our graduate programs attract a diverse range of professionals, including bankers, educators, technicians, and art enthusiasts, who aim to advance their careers both academically and professionally.
