Animal Hospital

Hello, I am Professor Dr. Şükrü Metin PANCARCI. I am the Chief Physician of the Animal Hospital at Balıkesir University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Our hospital has been providing services since the establishment of the veterinary faculty and officially started operating with a license from the Ministry of Agriculture in 2017. Its main purpose, of course, is to provide veterinary education, and in addition, we serve the local community and animal lovers by diagnosing and treating animal diseases. We offer diagnostic and treatment services for all types of diseases in animals, with a focus on cats, dogs, and farm animals. We also collaborate with local authorities, non-governmental organizations, animal lovers, and all sectors related to animals. Our hospital provides healthcare services to all domestic mammals. For example, in 2022, a total of 2,300 animals were brought to our hospital for diagnosis and treatment purposes. About 70% of them were small animals, mainly cats and dogs. The remaining 30% consisted of large animals such as cows, mares, horses, camels, sheep, and goats. The predominant large animals are sheep and goats, although cows, horses, and camels occasionally come for examination. We provide treatment for all mammalian animals that require it in the region. Although our university is located in Balıkesir, we also offer veterinary services to neighboring provinces without a veterinary faculty, including Manisa, Çanakkale, Kütahya, and surrounding districts, through our hospital. Our hospital is composed of four main clinical units: Surgical Clinic, Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic, and the Internal Medicine Clinic where I am currently located. We have equipment such as ultrasound and endoscopy devices. We have a modern hospital with advanced facilities. I believe that we provide a good education. Of course, we continuously work to further improve. Our fourth clinic is the fertilization and artificial insemination clinic. In addition to these clinics, we also have an excellent diagnostic analysis laboratory. In this laboratory, various analyses such as blood and urine tests are conducted to examine the diagnosis and treatment process of patients in the hospital when necessary. Similarly, through consultation with the pathology department, we investigate the progression and causes of diseases and strive to provide good service through collaboration. My first recommendation to candidates who will choose Balıkesir University Veterinary Faculty is to choose our faculty. Currently, we are among the top 7 most preferred veterinary faculties in our country. Balıkesir is a student city. It is a friendly city for students. It is an affordable city with ample living space. My advice to candidates who want to become veterinarians is that they need to love animals. We believe that all students who love the environment, nature, and have an interest in health sciences will receive a good education. Being located in the Southern Marmara Region, in the middle of the Aegean and Marmara Seas, Balıkesir is a city where the sheep and goat population is abundant. In this sense, we provide a great education regarding the diseases of farm animals. Furthermore, we have the chance to treat many cats and dogs, as we are in a metropolitan city. Our surgical department, especially the orthopedic service, can conduct provide education and research. We welcome students who are dedicated to veterinary medicine, including our high school students. They should remember that health sciences are prominent. Veterinary faculties may be challenging in terms of studies, and it can be considered as difficult as medical faculties. We work with many different animal species, but if they have love for the profession, everything becomes easier. There is no such thing as a difficulty when you love the work. We welcome all students. Veterinary medicine is a wonderful profession. The employment rate is great, I have been a veterinarian for 30 years, and I have not seen any colleague who loves the profession and remains unemployed.
