Department of Political Science and International Relations

Hello friends, I am Selay Varli, a student at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Başkent University. Being aware of the inadequacy of International Relations which is not being nourished by science or politics and which is not based on the fundamentals of Political Science, Başkent University has established the Department of Political Science and International Relations based on these two main disciplines. By aiming at evaluating the current political events at a global and local level, it is aimed to strengthen these two disciplines with different disciplines. We take courses needed for social formation, which are applicable to all the faculties in the first semester such as Economics, Sociology, Anthropology. When we pass onto the second year we take our step towards this department by taking an introduction course on political science and international relations. In the third and fourth years, we graduate from our university by choosing elective courses related to the area we head for. We do not have laboratories and workshops, we rather mostly benefit from the library. There is no compulsory internship in our department. However, the students, who wish to do it, can do their internship by their own means. Our department has no compulsory graduation project. The Department of Political Science and International Relations has a goal of raising students able to come up with quick solutions through critical, questioning perspectives and who can think broadly. We have a word in many fields thanks to the fact that we were able to take political science out of usual patterns and to implement it into daily live. We have employment opportunities in international civil society organizations, international relations departments of various ministries. Friends, later on this video, another friend of mine, who studies in the same department, will tell you about the advantages of this department.
Hello, friends, I am Tahir Tahiroglu, a 4th-year student in the Department of Political Science and International Relations. I have had an interest in politics since I was a child, therefore, I favored this department. As a result of serious research, I have seen that the academic staff of this department of Başkent University is very good. While I was studying here, I benefited from the department community, the academic staff, and the library. Among my post-graduation goals is to get a Master’s degree in a nice university abroad. After that, I want to have a life actively associated with politics. My recommendation to the prospective students at Başkent University will be regarding a language: if you choose this department, you definitely need to know the language. It would be better if you have command of the languages of the second or third states that dominate world politics. Başkent University is a very successful university in both social and educational fields. I wish good luck to all prospective students, thinking of entering this university.
