Medical Documentation and Secretarial Program

Hello. I am Lecturer Doctor Seyran Balkaş Demir. I am the Head of Medical Documentation and Secretarial Programme. Medical Documentation and Secretarial Programme, which started accepting students in the 2016-2017 academic year, is located in the Bağlum Campus. The education programme is two years comprising theoretical and practical studies. The main purpose of the programme is to train qualified healthcare personnel who have professional knowledge and competence, can use effective communication skills, and who have a command of using technological tools and equipment to collect, organise and archive the information needed by health institutions and organisations. In the first and second semesters, our students are given field and compulsory courses as part of YÖK (Higher Education Council). In the third and fourth semesters, courses such as Medical Documentation, Keyboard Writing Techniques, Professional Practice and Hospital Information Management Systems are taught. Within the scope of the Professional Practice course, practical training is provided in the health institutions determined by the Provincial Health Directorate in Ankara three days a week. At the end of the second semester, our students complete an internship lasting 20 working days in private or public health institutions or organisations in the summer term. Holding the title of Medical Secretary, graduates of the Medical Documentation and Secretarial Programme work in public or private health institutions and organisations. Graduates of the program are also employed in different areas of the health sector such as ambulance companies, medical software companies and medical companies. In parallel with the development of the health sector in our country, the need for employment is increasing day by day. People who want to take part in the health sector, where the employment rate is rapidly increasing, gain a strong place for themselves thanks to the expert education and training staff. In our Bağlum Campus, our students participate in social activities as well as educational activities. Our students benefit from our library on our campus. In addition, university life is enlivened by social activities that our student communities organise periodically. Career Planning, Application and Research Center supports both our students and graduates in career planning. Our graduates work in various administrative units of private or public health institutions and organisations, and at the same time our students can continue their education after graduation. They have the right to proceed to the undergraduate departments of Business Administration, Business Management, Health Administration and Health Management with the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS). Our students who want to take part in the health sector should gain the habit of lifelong learning, and should closely follow the scientific and technological developments specific to the field, not remaining within the bounds of education. We wish success to our students who will prefer the Medical Documentation and Secretarial Programme.
