Department of Political Science and International Relations

Hello friends, I am Yasemin Unal, a student at Başkent University in the English language Department of Political Science and International Relations. The main aim of our department is to train successful politicians. At the same time, other than our business lives, its aim is to ensure that we become cultured individuals. In other universities, political science and international relations are separate departments, while in our university these disciplines are combined. This provides students with the opportunities of getting a qualified education and of finding a job in a wider area. We take such basic courses - Political Science, at first - as Turkish Political History, International Relations, Economics, Sociology. So, they are trying to train us in every field. At the same time, you can take a lot of elective courses when you are in third and fourth years so that you improve yourself in your own field. Our department does not have a workshop or laboratory, but our university has a very large library. We can say that it is one of the best libraries in Turkey. You can reach many sources in Turkish and English in this library. This department requires reading a lot of books. In this sense, you can benefit from the library. There is no obligation for internship. But students, who wish to do it, can arrange their internships in summer or on holidays. This is how you know what your business life looks like. There is no final thesis in our department. You can work in different public institutions, especially at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and at the Ministry of Internal Affairs. At the same time, thanks to the education of our department, you can also show up in various international companies. Friends, later on this video, another friend of mine, who studies in the same department, will tell you about the advantages of this department.
Hello friends. I am Mehmet Fatih Murat and I am a student at Başkent University in the Department of Political Science and International Relations. I preferred this department because I had had an interest in politics since my childhood. This interest has turned into an ideal. I chased after my ideals. The reason why I preferred Başkent University is that it is located in Ankara, in a place where both political science and international relations have gathered under one roof and in a place with the best opportunities of studying politics. At the same time, there is a competent academic staff. We receive all kinds of support and aid from our faculty members. We have a very well-equipped library, we can find all kinds of books we are looking for. Our social environment is also delightful. After graduation, my goals are: to improve myself by getting my master degree and, by the time, by learning new languages and also to work in public institutions or international companies. At Başkent University, we have a great deal of opportunities, primarily physically and academically. I would like my friends to take advantage of these opportunities. We have a young and dynamic team. My recommendations to the students, who would like to choose this department: First of all, if they have interest in politics, I would like them to chase after it.
