Hello everyone. My name is Umutcan Çalış. I am a third grade student at the Baskent University, Department of Social Services. Social service is a profession that provides better conditions for people.. Our main goal is to change and improve peoples lives. Social services are being improved to respect human rights, to tender differences and to ensure social justice. We take different courses such as human rights and social environment, rule and intervention, anthropology, sociology and statistics. We don't have a lot of laboratory studies. Instead of this we work in the field. Work we do in the field is mostly applying what we have learned in the theoretical courses into practice. Together with the academic staff we apply what we have learned in theory to practice and get a chance to work in the field. Internship opportunities start from the third grade and last till the graduation. During the first semester of the third year we attend our internship once a week, there is no internship in the second semester. Instead of this we work with kids, women and with disabled persons during the summer time. Especially work we do outside the county under the supervision of our teahcers helps us to apply what we have learned to practice. We work on our thesis during the third year and present it during the senior year. If we get a good grade we gain right to graduate. After the graduation our work area devides in two- privat and public. Job opportunities in public sector are Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Family and Social Policies, AFAD, etc., as for a private sector- nursing homes, day care centres and places like these. Hi, my name is Anıl Dizdar. I am a third grade student at the Baskent University, Department of Social Services.The reason why I have chosen this department is the social sciences I have always been interested in, I also always cared about elderly, kids and disabled people. The reason I have chosen Baskent University is its experienced and well trained academic staff. Besides that sport, social and cultural activities played a big role. We benefit from the internship and thesis opportunities during the studies. Together with the teachers we work on different projects such as collecting toys for kids and opening exhibitions. Moreover I took advantage of Erasmus and Erasmus Plus. After gaining some experience in this field I want to become an academician. I want to contribute to social services studies. Baskent University presents a lot of opportunities to join projects abroad. Moreover, academic staff is well equipped and experienced. I am waiting for you here, at the Baskent University.
