Mechatronics Engineering
I am Professor Durmuş Karayel. I am the Head of Mechatronics Engineering Department. I also conduct machine-based courses such as Static Strength and Machine Elements in our department. Our department is an accredited department that has completed all processes of the MÜDEK (Engineering Education Programs Evaluation and Accreditation Association) accreditation institution. Therefore, it is an internationally recognized department. Mechatronics is a privileged discipline. It consists of mechanical systems, electronic systems, computers and information systems; which makes it a multi-faceted discipline. We have many courses which bring these subjects together. These courses consist of two stages: The first is basic engineering courses and the second is applied courses. After the theoretical course is given in our applied courses, applications are made in our laboratories. This is an advantage that makes us stand out as a department. We have a rich laboratory infrastructure. It consists of automation, control and robotics, electrical-electronic circuits, digital circuits, electrical machines, power systems and computer laboratory. Apart from these, we also have many research centers such as Artificial Intelligence Research Center, Autonomous Systems Research Center, Robotic Systems Research Center. Our students have 2 mandatory summer internships, each for 20 days. Apart from this, much more importantly, we have our workplace training study, which we call as “7+1”. This program is different from the internship programs, and we are the first in Turkey who started it. Our student goes to practice in the last year, namely in the 7th or 8th semester. Of course, 7+1 has many benefits for us. The students have work experience before they graduate. We take the graduation project very seriously. Students are able to practice here before encountering a project in real life, which is a very significant advantage for us here.
As in all universities, we have Erasmus, Farabi and Mevlana programs along their institutional coordinators. In addition to these, we also have a student exchange program commission in our department. We provide a great participation in Teknofest. There is a substantial demand from our students in this regard. Almost all of our professors provide academic consultancy to the competing teams. Apart from this, students are vigorously encouraged both by the senior management and our department for competitions in Turkey and abroad. In addition, I can not go without mentioning this: our department successfully hosted a highly participated contest which was held in 2019, under the name of Robot Olympics. Our department, by its nature, covers almost all sectors from agriculture to space technologies, from home technologies to medical devices. Therefore, our students have the opportunity to find work in R&D (research and development), design, production and quality control departments. Our department is naturally based on physics and mathematics. I would especially recommend our department to students who are interested and/or have experience in this direction. To repeat what we said before: Our laboratory facilities provide a wide array of capabilities, and, apart from that, we have implemented the 7+1 system. Also, Sakarya, thanks to its geographical location, is close to many of the cities in Turkey, such as Istanbul, Kocaeli and Bursa, which hosts a large portion of the national industry. In this respect, our students do not have a hard time finding a workplace in the 7+1 model. In addition, both in terms of the Credit and Dormitories Agency dormitories and private dormitories, I do not think that our students will have difficulties in terms of accommodation here. We are waiting for our students to Sakarya. We are ready to prepare you for life, we look forward to meet with you.
