Computer Engineering

My name is Halit Öztekin, I am an Associate Professor. I am the Head of Computer Engineering Department. Our department is an engineering discipline in which basic hardware information, as well as algorithmic and software-based information are provided. Of course, our difference from other universities is that we go to structuring in the following way: We are trying to build both the infrastructure of our department and our professor's credentials in a way that will gain competence especially concerning artificial intelligence technology, especially since we have just opened. And at this point, we plan to train our students to developed their skills concerning artificial intelligence technologies. Computer engineering can be divided into two categories: software and hardware. Of course, the most basic form of education in this regard consists of providing information related to hardware in which software is developed accordingly. Having this in mind, we have updated our course content for the use of artificial intelligence technology, as we want to become competent in this field as a department. For now, there are some essential laboratories that the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) asks us to keep in our school so that we can start providing education and training. Our physics laboratory, a general purpose computer laboratory, and a basic laboratory where logic theories are taught and digital designs are made are currently available. Our students have a 7 + 1 application unique to our university. When students make it to the fourth grade, they undertake an internship in any private or public institution. In the second semester, in the last year, they complete their training in this department by doing an internship at a workplace. With the agreements our university has made with various international organizations and universities, our students can easily go to these universities within the scope of exchange programs such as Erasmus. Our students can easily find a job in almost all areas where the informatics industry operates. Of course, I believe that our students will find jobs very easily, especially in the field of artificial intelligence technology, as we have established our course content, infrastructure and teacher infrastructure in accordance with the developments in artificial intelligence technology, which is one of the foundation goals of our department. Thanks to the benefits of Sakarya, students can meet their social needs and find great support in the library area and laboratory infrastructure provided on the campus. Of course, they could encounter minor problems, but I am convinced that these will also be resolved in no time. In particular, software engineering and computer engineering are understood to be quite similar in Turkey, and get confused a lot. Therefore, I advise our students to come here knowing that computer engineers design a hardware unit and build an original architecture and software on this unit. Because software engineering is a field where only existing software applications are implemented, computer engineering can be considered to be a department where hardware is developed and software is built for the hardware. If you want to study in a department in which original hardware is developed for original software applications, in a world that is globalizing at full speed, we are waiting for you.
