Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation
Hello, and first of all, welcome. My name is Oğuzhan Bahadır Demir. I am the Head of the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Faculty of Health Sciences, Sakarya University of Applied Sciences. Our department is located in the Akyazı district of Sakarya. Let me talk about the courses given in our department. In the first year, our students study the basic courses, besides these basic courses, they take courses such as Anatomy, Physiology, Histology, Pathology, which are basic medical sciences courses. In the second grade, vocational courses increase. Students, especially after the third grade, will take these applied vocational courses in English, implementing the philosophy of Sakarya University of Applied Sciences. Although we are a newly established university and a newly established department, we completed our laboratory studies in a very short time. We have created all kinds of laboratory environments that our fellow students will use and work both in their internships and professional lives. We currently have 3 laboratories. We have got all the necessary equipment in all our laboratories. All our laboratories will benefit our fellow students. Because when they begin working, they will see this equipment in the centers where they work, and use the same equipment that they have used in these laboratories. One of them is our electrotherapy lab, the other two are our exercise labs. As I just mentioned before, we have provided all the equipment that our fellow students can use in their courses and in their future careers. Our fellow students will start doing internships, beginning in the summer semester of the second grade. We offer students the opportunity to do internships either in their own city or in Sakarya. Starting from the third grade, students will undertake practical training in our application laboratories here. At the same time, we plan to provide our students with the opportunity to work in this facility both after the internship and after graduation, after providing the physical facilities of our Physiotherapy Rehabilitation Application and Research Center, which we are currently establishing.
As the Department of Physical Therapy, we participate in Turkey Physiotherapists Association physiotherapy congresses. Our students also have the opportunity to participate in these congresses. We, as the Faculty of Health Sciences, have a joint congress related to health, which we will conduct together with Ege University at the end of October. We are active in this congress and in studies in the field of health by taking part in the regulatory board. Students who graduate from our department have the opportunity to work in hospitals affiliated to both public and private sectors, as well as private education and rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, spas, wellness centers and sports clubs. There is still a shortage of physiotherapists in this regard. My advice to students who will choose our department is this: First of all, it is important that they love people. Because as the Chinese proverb goes "Do what you love and do not work a day in your life". This job is definitely not about making money. You should love working for people. Working in the field of rehabilitation, especially as a physiotherapist, is a job that requires a lot of patience. Your patience and your efforts are everything. Therefore, you need to be patient. In order to be able to do your job with a passion, you have to love people. You should know that you will work a lot, get tired, and not get the rewards of your work in a short time. Our university provides great opportunities for students coming from outside of Sakarya. It’s in the name, applied science. Applications are of paramount importance for us. Also, the hot springs and thermal facilities in our Akyazı district, and the fact that Sakarya is a metropolitan city, and the English education offered by our university is also very important. As English is an indispensable language that one needs to learn to follow innovations in the field of health, this advantage is important. Learning this language is a must. As Sakarya University of Applied Sciences, we invite students from everywhere to take advantage of the quality education and applied approach of Sakarya University of Applied Sciences.
