Veterinary
Hello, I'm Begüm. I am 21 years old. I was born and raised in Istanbul. I am a 4th grade student at Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Our faculty was established in 2012 to meet the veterinary needs of the Thrace region. It is located in Değirmenaltı Campus. Education and training has been continuing since 2014. In the first years of our education, we lay the groundwork for clinical fields by taking courses from science fields such as anatomy, biochemistry, embryology and histology, pharmacology, toxicology, pathology, and virology in order to establish a solid foundation of our education. At the same time, we learn from zootechny and animal nutrition departments in order to get to know and raise animals and increase their productivity in animal nutrition and breeding. We gain competence in food processing, technology and production with the courses we take from the departments of food hygiene and technology. In the last years of our education, by taking courses such as surgery, obstetrics, gynecology, internal diseases, and completing our applied and theoretical courses, we obtain both undergraduate and graduate diplomas. With our education, we graduate as a qualified physician by getting information not only on domestic animals, but also in areas such as wildlife and exotic life, bees, and aquatic creatures. In our faculty, we have 23 laboratories where all student affairs are carried out. At the same time, our animal hospital will soon be completed and put into service. In addition to the field education in our faculty, our 4th grade students complete a compulsory internship for 20 working days when they finish the 4th grade. These internships can be done in clinics, animal hospitals, doctor's offices and laboratories. In the 5th grade, we choose a field of our own (eg clinical field or animal husbandry) together with our training and do compulsory internship in line with our own choice. The job opportunities of our profession are quite wide. If I need to give an example to these, I can say animal hospitals, polyclinics, animal breeding areas, animal training centers, animal hostels. If human medicine is for humans, veterinary medicine is for humanity. I chose this profession to be a healing hand for creatures that cannot express their illnesses and ailments clearly, even though they describe it with their body language. My main goal is to treat and rescue, especially the animals that are condemned to live on the streets, which are found in large numbers in our country. Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University is advantageous with its proximity to Istanbul. At the same time, even though it is a big city, it is a wonderful city that preserves its friendship with nature. Here, you may encounter cases that you cannot see in many cities. After successfully completing my training, my main goal is to establish a clinic of my own and extend a healing hand to animals that have been condemned to live on the street. If you want to become a veterinarian and get this training, there are some issues you need to be confident about. You should especially question whether you have a love for animals. Because this profession is not a profession that can be done without the love of animals. Veterinary medicine also has certain difficulties, for example animals and humans often do not volunteer for treatment. You should consider that you may suffer physical injuries as a result. At the same time, when you become a veterinarian, you are all alone in finding and treating the animal's problem. But if you risk all this and set out on such a road, you can end up experiencing many rescue missions. I wish success to candidates who want to choose our university and department.
