Agricultural Biotechnology
I am Associate Professor Murat Velioğlu, Head of The Department of Agricultural Biotechnology, Department of Enzyme and Microbial Biotechnology. Department of Agricultural Biotechnology was established on May 7, 2009 at Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University, Faculty of Agriculture. Our department provides undergraduate, master's and doctoral education. There is a 1-year English Preparatory Program for new students in our department. Fundamental science courses such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany are provided in the 1st grade of our department. Agricultural Engineering courses are provided in the 2nd grade. In the 3rd and 4th grades, courses such as Molecular Genetics, Animal Cell Culture and Microbial Biotechnology are given. There are 7 laboratories belonging to the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology. There are 2 Animal Biotechnology Laboratories, 2 Herbal Biotechnology Laboratories, a Molecular Genetics Laboratory, a Microbial Biotechnology Laboratory and Application Laboratory. In addition, we have a research unit called “Ziraatbiyotek” where our departmental faculty members are employed. This units supports our students both in undergraduate education and during internship periods. There are also greenhouses and laboratories where plant tissue culture studies are carried out. There is a mandatory internship program for 30 days for the students in our department. This program is carried out in the summer period at the end of the 6th semester. Our students can carry out their internships in the private or public sectors. Our students carry out their graduation projects in the form of 2 undergraduate courses, titled Special Project 1 and Special Project 2, in the fall and spring semesters of the 4th grade. We are a part of the Erasmus Plus program so our students to study abroad. Among the countries we have joint programs, we have Bulgaria, Poland, Denmark and France. As the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology, we have an annual congress event called "Biotechnology Days", which we carry out together with our students. In this event, the Biotechnology Club, in which our students are members, they take an active role under the coordination of the faculty members of our department. Students who graduate from our department can work in both the public and private sectors. In the public sector, they can work in institutions such as provincial directorates and research institutes affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture. In the private sector, they can work in companies that carry out tissue culture and genetic studies, food companies and institutions such as Ziraat Bank are among the institutions where our students can work. I recommend the candidates who will choose our department to follow recent discussions about biotechnology, the profession of today and our future. In addition, I recommend that they review the projects carried out and the work carried out by our faculty members from the website of our department. Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University, thanks to its proximity to İstanbul, is in a great location for students and parents in terms of coastal access to both the Black Sea and the Marmara Sea, as well as by air, land and sea. Facilities such as Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University Health Application and Research Hospital, laboratories, a library, Social Life Center, a large stadium where different sporting activities are performed, Sports Complex are waiting for our students. I can say that we would be happy to welcome students to a city like Tekirdağ where they will be peaceful, calm and happy. We look forward to students who will choose the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology after the university exam. I would like to point out that we will do everything we can to help them improve themselves in biotechnology, the profession of our present and future.
