Medicine
Hello, I am Pelin Tok, 6th grade student in Faculty of Medicine at Namık Kemal University. Namık Kemal University and Faculty of Medicine, which is located in Tekirdağ province, is a 6-year department. The language of instruction is Turkish. Our trainings are divided into pre-clinical and clinical after 3rd grade. We have general courses in our first semester trainings, and after that, we are now starting go to the hospital in 4th, 5th and 6th grades. Our trainings continue in this way for our programs. Our classes are as follows: We have lecture and laboratory lessons in 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades. Our hospital practices are now beginning in grades 4, 5 and 6. In addition, our lessons continue in the clinical part. Our laboratory courses also take place in our dean's office, morphology building. In the hospital, polyclinics, service duties, observations and the trainings given by our professors will continue in the clinical period. Our laboratory courses take place intensively, especially during the pre-clinical period. We have laboratories such as biochemistry, microbiology, anatomy and histology. We are doing some biochemical studies and experiments in these laboratories. We have bacterial, fungal and virus examinations in our microbiology laboratory. We have cadaver and model training in our anatomy laboratories. In our histology laboratory, our trainings continue on subjects such as cell examinations and staining. After 6 years of medical education, we can start working by entering certain state institutions. Of course, there are other ways, but the most important thing waiting for us is TUS (Medical Specialty Exam). After TUS, we direct our lives according to where we will settle. Obviously, this exam and our decisions regarding this exam also affect how we continue to practice medicine. After completing our department, we receive the title of doctor. Of course, there are many different fields that can be studied with this title. We can continue to be a medical doctor, after entering TUS, we can work where our expertise lies. Apart from that, we can work in various medical and similar places, and take part in scientific research. There are many areas where a physician is needed. We can continue our studies with the title of physician in domestic and foreign aid organizations. Why did I choose my department? I was born, raised and lived in Bursa. I wanted my university to be somewhere close to my family. I also visited Tekirdağ during the university preference period. I chose it because the city is small, it is close to the sea and I think it is a more comfortable city for students. Apart from that, it is also a great advantage that the morphology building and the hospital were close to each other and in contact. Of course, the biggest factor will be your score and ranking. This is one of the most important factors in your university choices.
Frankly, I did not want to study at a university in a very crowded city, both in terms of money, education, transportation and so on. Considering these, the province of Tekirdağ, where Namık Kemal University is located, was a really suitable city for me. Being by the sea was also a very nice factor. Its proximity to Istanbul was also very important to me. I do not live in Istanbul, but I am very close to Istanbul, and I could come and go home comfortably. Namık Kemal University was very valuable for this. Apart from that, I have also researched the studies of my university and the projects it contributed to. Although it was a newly opened university, it was a very dynamic university. The same goes for the professors. We had very valuable professors. Frankly, I wanted to choose this place because of these. There were existing projects, opportunities such as Erasmus, Farabi, and many other opportunities offered by the university. For this reason, Namık Kemal University was the right choice for me. I want to take the TUS (Medical Specialty Examination). I also consider a surgical department as my specialty. After graduation, I think of taking an exam after my appointment, doing good and continuing in a surgical department. My suggestions to the candidates who will choose this place are as follows: Definitely research the universities you can choose. Get in touch with the students there and learn from them. You should definitely go and tour because nothing can replace seeing with your own eyes and making decisions based on the way it makes you feel. Always search for the factors. These factors are: The work done in that university, the academic staff, the projects, domestic and international opportunities. You should definitely research them. What matters is not always the best. What matters is what is best for you? I think you need to look at this first. What is right for you. You need to look at which university or city you can be comfortable with while studying. These are my suggestions to all candidates. We wish success to all candidates who will prefer Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University.
