Medicine
Hello, I'm Mihran Kizil. I am a 6th grade student at Namık Kemal University Faculty of Medicine. I live in Erdek. I have been continuing my education at my university for 6 years. Namık Kemal University Faculty of Medicine is a faculty that provides 6-year medical education. We do not have a preparatory class because the language of instruction is Turkish. A total of 6 years of training has been completed, including 3 years pre-clinical and the last 3 years clinical. The first 3 years are completed by taking theoretical courses in the lecture halls in our morphology building and practical courses in the laboratories, by going to the hospital and practicing on the patients when necessary. The last 3 years are completed with an internship at Namık Kemal University Research Hospital. In the first 3 years, basic courses are given in general. Of course, introductory courses to clinical fields are also taken in these years. Thus, when you are transferred to the hospital for the last 3 years of education, it is possible to have an idea about the hospital. These introductory courses are basic courses such as Anatomy, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Histology. In addition to taking these courses theoretically in lecture halls, we are practicing it on cadavers and models in our anatomy laboratories. In the Biochemistry laboratory, we make applications related to the Biochemistry course. We have microscopes in the microbiology laboratory. One of the advantages of our hospital and our morphology building being new is that there is sufficient number of facilities for each student and that all facilities are given to each student equally. Each student can practice with the microscope assigned to him or her in every laboratory. In the first 3 years, basic courses are taught in this way. In the last 3 years, we receive applied training both in surgical and clinical internships, by seeing patients in polyclinics and by entering surgeries in operating rooms. For example, we progress through the internship practices of fields such as internal medicine, pediatrics, general surgery, ear, nose and throat, respectively, within the periods specified in our curriculum, after passing the qualification exam of each. We use our laboratories very actively in the first 3 years, which we call pre-clinical period. We have laboratories such as anatomy, microbiology, histology and biochemistry. We receive sufficient practical training in each laboratory and complete our training there. The last 3 years of medical faculty education appears to be clinical education. In 4th and 5th grades, we work as an intern physician. While we take the internships in grades 4 and 5 in a practical way, at the end of each internship, we take a two-stage exam, both oral and written. If we get enough points in the two-stage exam, we will have successfully completed the internship. In the 6th grade, which is the last year, you become an intern doctor. When we are an intern doctor, we do not take any exams at the hospital. During this period, practical studies are carried out in each department of the hospital, one after another, by complying with the internship periods reserved for each internship. During this period, we have an internship report card. When we complete the qualifications in this report, as an internship doctor, we are become qualified and successfully completed that internship. This is the internship policy of our hospital. There is a wide variety of areas where we can work upon graduation. Because medicine is a department that has many branches in itself. In general, when medical students start the faculty, as they study in the department and visit the departments during internships, both their personality and expectations for education and their own profession are shaped. Thus, we can specialize on what we want from the basic or clinical branches within the medical school and work as a specialist.
Being a doctor was my childhood dream. I chose the medical school very devotedly and willingly. All the choices in my list of preferences already consisted of medical schools. I came very willingly, and I study very enthusiastically. I hope I can continue to practice my profession with much love. Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University was established in 2006. Our Morphology building and hospital were established in 2016. Being new has a lot of advantages. As I have just mentioned, it is very important to be able to provide all opportunities to every student in abundance, variety and equality. Because medical science is a science that can be learned from books, and medicine is not a profession that can be done only by reading. It is necessary to be able to actively participate in everything and develop skills in a practical way. Because it is a section where communication with people is very important. One of the importance of being a new hospital here is that the only hospital that provides tertiary health care in our region is the hospital of our university. This has a great advantage, because the patient population is large and the variety of incoming patients is huge. We can see a large number of patients in each area, in each sub-unit. These are the biggest advantages. Apart from these, it is a very important detail that it is an accredited university and that our diploma is valid abroad. Our professors are really valuable. They all help us as best they can. I think it is much easier to keep in touch with all our professors than it is in other universities. Whenever we want, we can contact any professor and work in the academic field. Be sure, all of our professors will support you a lot in this regard. We have been doing a lot of scientific work for 6 years, publishing articles and every professor helps us a lot. These have been our biggest advantages. Of course, I could not know these without coming to the hospital. Therefore, I recommend the students who prefer to come and visit the hospital before the period of preference. After graduation, my goal is to become a clinical specialist. After graduating from the medical school, we need to take the TUS (Medical Specialization Exam) to become an expert. With the TUS score, we choose universities and departments just like after the university exam and settle. My goal is to get a good score in this specialty exam and to work in a department related to children. Medical faculty is a department that should be studied in devotion. If you really do not want to be a doctor, I do not recommend prescribing medicine for other reasons. Because 6 years is a really long training period. From the moment you step into the medical faculty, you are embarked on a continuous and long-term education adventure. Studying in medical school, being a doctor is a really long road but it is as enjoyable as it is long. If you come here with dedication, you will do the best for yourself, you will have a very happy life. I recommend that the students to choose Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University Faculty of Medicine. Because I studied medical faculty here for 6 years, doing everything I wanted very actively. One of the biggest advantages of our school is being close to Istanbul. Because many medical congresses and training are organized in Istanbul. Most of the student congresses take place in Istanbul. The fact that transportation to Istanbul is so easy gives students access to future diplomas and certificates where they can improve themselves by taking extra training outside of school. That is why it is very important for Tekirdağ to be close to Istanbul. Candidates take this into account as well. I wish success to all students who will take the university entrance exam. I hope everything will be as your heart desires and I hope we can see you at our medical school in Tekirdağ.
