Faculty of Political Science

Hello, my name is Mehmet Akif Limeci. I completed my undergraduate education at Ankara University. I got my PhD at the University of Pennsylvania in the United States. I worked as a lecturer at the Institute of Technology in America. Then I went back to Bilkent University and worked there for a while. Afterwards, I came to the Social Sciences University of Ankara as a faculty member of the Faculty of Political Sciences. I've been working as the dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences for 3 years. I'm a professor in the Department of International Relations. Our faculty was founded in 2013. However, we started taking in student in 2016. We have four departments in our faculty. These are the Department of International Relations, Department of Political Science and Public Administration and the Department of Business and Economics. Nearly 70% of our academicians have completed their doctoral education abroad. we have a group of experienced academics. As for publications, we work with people who have international publications. We have implemented an educational tradition that incorporates both public and private sector and non-governmental organizations. Although we are a new university, we are happy to offer all this knowledge to our students. In our university, we provide internship opportunities in think tanks, public and private sectors on a voluntary basis. We encourage our students in this regard. At the same time, with the ERASMUS program, a number of other scholarships, scholarships from the EU and local scholarships, we encourage our students to go abroad and gain experience there. We believe that it is also important to gain the experience of living abroad, learning about other cultures, which will contribute to our students careers. Our students have the chance to work in many places. For example, graduates of the Department of Business Administration are trained here in the hands of well-equipped academicians. They prefer to work in the private sector, but there are some who want to work in the public sector. We also provide them with important knowledge and important contributions in the career office. We help them make career plans by focusing on their own identities and personalities. Political Science and Public Administration students mostly focus on the public sector. They aim to work in institutions such as The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The Ministry of Interior, and district governates. All public offices are avaible for employment. The Department of International Relations students can work in think tanks, ministries, press and publication information units, television and newspapers. There are also graduates from our four departments that aim to become academicians. We try to offer them separate consultancy for their own goals.
Our faculty provides education with a very well-equipped academic staff. All we want is to equip our students with the qualifications required in this day and era. It's about providing them with the knowledge they need. Therefore, our students are our main focus and our main goal. It is our goal to provide our students with the best education. Our university and faculty are in the heart of Ankara. We’re located in Ulus. The center of the Nation. Wouldn’t you want to study where the Republic was founded? 200 meters ahead, we have the first assembly, the Veterans Assembly. 200 meters the other way is the tomb and mosque of Haji Bayram Veli Hazrat. And right here is our campus. We don’t have many students. This is an important advantage for incoming students. Our location is great, and the education we provide immaculate. Also, the language of education is English. Almost all of our faculty members have international experience. Therefore, a very well-equipped, knowledgeable staff is waiting for you. Social Sciences University of Ankara is the first university of social sciences established by the state. We started off in 2013. We are located in the heart of Ankara, we are in Ulus. We are at the place where the Republic was founded. We are in touch with the public and private sectors. We provide support for public institutions, by implementing policies and providing counselling. The experience our students will gain here will prepare them for the next phase, for their careers. In this sense, I believe that we have the chance to teach them a lot if they choose us. We have a project called Sociokent. It is a first in Turkey. It is a project which universities such as ODTÜ and Bilkent are involved. The public thinks that social sciences aren’t a bridge between businesses and universities. Social Sciences University of Ankara is the first university to change this perception. There is a platform in which the students of socials sciences can come together with the private sector representatives to produce knowledge and capital. That's why we're all waiting for you all here. Let me tell this to students who are preparing for the exam. I would like to remind you again that we have a university in one of the best locations, in the busiest region of Ankara. Of course they'll compare schools before choosing. As the Faculty of Political Sciences in Ankara, we are competing against the best universities with our four departments. The efforts, publications and interest of our academicians are one of the most important factors. In this sense, I would like to remind them that they will be a part of this university, not guests. They should visit universities and think about their choice. I wish success to all students who will choose our university. I wish success to all students who will take the university exam. Do not forget that university exams and university education are very important, a very important step, but it is not everything.
