BAUSMER
I am Professor Mehmet Tektaş, Director of the Intelligent Transportation Systems Application and Research Center at Bausmer, where we are now. At the same time, I am the Head of the Department of Transportation Engineering, I am also the Head of the Department of Intelligent Transportation Technologies at the Institute of Science. I also have other administrative duties. We came here in 2016, to a new generation university with 157 students. I am a graduate of Anadolu University, Department of Mathematics. I went to Marmara University from there. After working there for 27 years starting in 1989, I worked in areas such as Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence, Optimization. I taught a high number of students, close to 60,000. I came here at the request of the rector. I have been working here for about 7 years. As I said, we have various postgraduate studies, we are waiting for the opening of the department. This is a multi-disciplinary department that includes the Faculty of Engineering and other branches of science. We have learned from the new generation of education, especially in the pandemic, from Smart Logistics to Public Transportation, E-Scooters, we carry out studies and training programs on these systems. We are the first research center of its kind. We opened this research center in 2016, but before opening this center, we prepared its infrastructure. We brought people from the public and private sectors who are experienced, we held a workshop a workshop to provide information on the studies. We held an international conference on what can be done, we established our research center. We have also published a magazine that is the sole source that provides information on the matter, titled “Intelligent Transportation Systems and Applications Magazine”. We have opened both the Institute and the Department, so to sum up, as Bausmer, we have a research center that was established here and cooperates with the sector and conducts studies, we provide various services here and we carry out activities. Bausmer has not got an additional budget for its operations, in contrast to institutions such as the ones in the UK. However, all Municipalities, that is, local governments, all private sector NGOs are working on this, Non-Governmental Organizations, private sector companies, Traffic Studies, Feasibility Practices are also undertaken. For example, we made the Transportation Plan of Bandırma, where we are now. Our licensed students work here with the Technology Transfer Office, they carry out academic studies and earn a salary. We are members of Aus Turkey and we are one of the 4 universities. We are preparing qualified personnel for the sector, we are doing our practical work. We try to help out students in terms of employment by providing them with reference letters so they can work in the sector. We are also engaged in postgraduate application studies on Autonomy tools, communication systems. We provide services in close cooperation with municipalities and public institutions. We are engaged in such work. You can obtain more information from the Bausmer section on the Bandırma webpage.
We made the transportation plan and master plan of the city and started to implement them. Apart from this, we have made plans for the courthouse area with the Metropolitan Municipality, and a very short time ago, we provided consultancy services on such a master plan for Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality. Apart from that, we do Traffic Studies, Feasibility Studies. We help our students in their master's and doctorate studies. We have students in İspakta, we have students working at Ankara Ego, we have students in Bursa Bolulaşta, we have students in the Ministry of Transport, we also have a student who became an F16 pilot. We also have an engineer. You know, we have our students' theses, master's and doctoral theses, and even international students in many fields from ports to sea routes to railways and airlines. For example, we are working with someone on Baku, we are trying implement an Intelligent Transportation Systems Architecture for Bangladesh. On a national and international basis, we are making various applications that are used by artificial intelligence, all technological services related to useful transportation to their own city, region, country. We also work on the social aspects of our work. Since this work has a disciplinary aspect, we work in this way in all sectors, both public and private, and we continue to do so because this field is a very wide field with many applications. There is a lot of space and we have multidisciplinary students, they work on urban planning, smart cities, and they make such applications. We always try to realize the projects that are on paper. We are always in the field, they can learn more about this on our website. They can learn how many students we have, and how many studies we have undertaken, all is available online on the Bausmer Bandırma Editorial.
This research center and its organic central transportation engineer are not the sole ones in Turkey, we are trying to open them. In other words, we are waiting for permission from YÖK (Higher Education Council), but the research center is the only one in Turkey, for example in some universities, we have very valuable colleagues working on autonomous vehicles, transportation planning, they have their own conferences, their own international Journal, research center, academic studies. We make announcements for our doctoral and master degree programs. We can take 15 to 20 students. For the first time in Turkey, we have students who are doing a Master's and PhD in the field of Transportation Engineering. We are expecting students that have graduated from many departments such as engineering and city planning to apply. We invite you to do business here, to work on your theses, to work in joint collaborations and projects with us. It is great, so we do not have any competition in Turkey. Now, we applied to YÖK (Higher Education Board) as a research university. We will become official quite soon. We are trying to establish a multi-disciplinary educational organization here, focusing on the Engineering Faculties, and also the Faculty of Sciences. We are in competition with the world in this field because there is no single university in the world where all this is done. That's why we turned our Research Center into an Institute, that is, we made our application for the Institute of Intelligent Transportation Systems, and we are actually waiting for the decree of YÖK. First, the application was rejected because we are still working on the structuring of this future institution. I forgot to mention this. We also have an Intelligent Transportation Systems laboratory, where we both do our trainings with our students, and we hold meetings, trainings, other proficiency exams, other presentations. As of this semester, we have started providing training in the laboratory. We also have goals for 2023. In order to make this structure, which is the only one in Turkey, we are doing our best to incorporate multidisciplinary and qualified personnel amongst our ranks. We are introducing new education systems to be able to provide education even on a Saturday or Sunday night. That's why we're so well-known. Bausmer is quite popular among people who are interested in postgraduate studies. Hopefully, we will carry on providing the studies that will inspire people. It is clear that the work we have done for 6 years will be the reference of what we will do. I've done all this so far. I'm an ambitious person. Because I have 20 international students, postgraduate and doctoral students, we are looking for projects that will do this kind of work in their countries, so I want projects that we will do together with those students. Both as a university and as a country, the new generation of new young people want cool environments, let me talk in their own terms, they want cool topics. I believe students will be satisfied with the modern approaches that this subject requires. It is one of our leading subjects in our university. I would also like to thank all of our colleagues through this platform. We have nearly 40 teachers, and 40 of them work in different fields, some of them work on autonomous vehicles, some of them work on renewable energy. We bring together officials from Transportation Planning, City Planning, Smart City employees, Civil Engineers, Transportation Engineers. We have 27 graduates from our graduate school. We are proud of what we did last summer. We promise the new students that we will have accessible transportation, an accessible education, an accessible and adaptable, applicable undergraduate and doctoral program, which we have done, and we will continue from now on. These are our goals and plans.
