Akdağmadeni School of Health

Hello, I am Suzan TEK AYAZ, the director of Akdağmadeni High School of Health.

In 2012, with a decision of the Council of Ministers, we opened our high school. In 2016, we started education with the students of the occupational health safety department. As of 2021, we started nursing education with our nursing department students. We have two departments that are currently actively open. Occupational health safety department and nursing department. We also have a midwifery department, which was planned to be opened in 2012, on the first opening date of our school. It is currently inactive, but we are planning to admit students to the midwifery department as of 2023.

In the occupational health and safety department and nursing department, our curriculum was prepared within the framework determined by the Council of Higher Education. In the nursing department, our curriculum was prepared within the scope of HUÇEP (Nursing National Core Education Programme) specific to the nursing curriculum. For the occupational health and safety department, we have created our curriculum with new updates in line with the latest workshops. Our courses are carried out within the framework of basic vocational education courses.

In the occupational health and safety department, we have a workplace training internship in the last semester. In the department of nursing, in addition to the internships of basic vocational courses in the 2nd and 3rd grades, we have an education programme in which we provide training to our students in hospitals and complete their internships with internship training in the last year.

We have separate laboratories for the occupational health and safety department and the nursing department. The laboratory of the occupational health and safety department was established in 2012 and is developing day by day. With the new projects made by our professors, we bring new tools, new machines and new devices. In this sense, we currently have a laboratory with sufficient capacity for our occupational health and safety students. Our laboratory for the nursing department was established last year and I think we have the biggest laboratory in Turkey. In this laboratory, which has an area of 300 square metres, we have a teaching environment where our students learn their professional skills in addition to the course, a real simulation environment similar to the hospital environment and models with simulators.
In this way, we plan that both our nursing and occupational health and safety students will gain their professional skills at the best level.

Apart from our laboratories, what are the educational opportunities for our students? If we talk specifically about Akdağmadeni District: Akdağmadeni has an infrastructure that provides many mines such as lead and zinc in Turkey. On the other hand, it has the largest forest in the Central Anatolia Region. Why are these important? There is a high sector potential here, especially for occupational health and safety. There are companies that export internationally and we have protocols that we are currently cooperating with these companies. These protocols provide our students with a working area and also an internship area. In this sense, it provides an environment for both our occupational health and safety students and nursing students to work in areas such as workplace internship and public health internship. Apart from this, if we think about where nursing students benefit; Akdağmadeni State Hospital is located very close to our school and our cooperation continues at a very good level.
Our cooperation with public institutions and organisations is progressing at a good level within the framework of our protocols for both occupational health and safety and the nursing department. Apart from this, our internship or training opportunities are not limited to Akdağmadeni. We make our plans to use all the educational opportunities in the field of health and occupational health and safety that we can benefit from in our research and application hospital, city hospital or other provinces in Yozgat and we ensure that our students benefit from them.
