Hello my name is ANA DEL PILAR ROBLEDO MENDEZ I am from Guatemala, a small country in Central America. I have been in Turkey for two and a half years, since September 2014. I decided to come to Turkey because of Mimar Sinan, and also because it was one of the countries that offered the Master’s Degree program that I wanted. The university I graduated from in Guatemala has a kind of monthly newspaper for students and in it there was an advertisement about a Turkish government scholarship. I went to the scholarship website and I saw that there was a chance to apply for Masters of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design program. Nowadays it’s hard to find a Masters in this program especially with scholarship. That’s why I applied for the Turkish scholarship. After a while I got the acceptance email, I felt really happy and willing to come here. After coming to Turkey, to Baskent to be specific my life perspective has changed. I consider myself more independent, freer, and a responsible human being. The university helped a lot honestly, one of the many positive points that Baskent University has is that part of the staff speaks English, that was a big help. In my first day at the university I made a friend he was a student from Baskent he helped with all the paper work, Turkish people are very helpful. The quality of the education is very high here, the teachers prefer to interact with the students, the relationship between them and the students is very close. I got the chance to go for the Erasmus program two times, once for the internship, the second for the exchange program, I went to two cities in Spain, Mayurka and Madrid. Mayurka for the internship, and Madrid for the student exchange program. I have been to many places in Turkey: Istanbul, Antalya, Cappadocia, Fethiye. And still I can say that Ankara is the best place for studying. Other cities are good for tourism sightseeing but not to live and study like Ankara. Turkish language is not very hard to learn, you may face some problems but it is doable. I can say that Turkey became my second home, and when I was in Madrid I was missing Ankara.
