Primary and Mathematics Teaching Department

Hello friends, I am a second grader in the Primary and Mathematics Teaching Department in Baskent University. At the same time I do double major in PCG(Psychological Counseling and Guidance) Department which is divided in half into the major courses and the formation courses. In the major courses we mostly have mathematics classes. These are abstract mathematics, algebra, analysis, geometri etc. In formation classes we mostly have eductional lessons. We are covering the topics such as how to behave when we are on the field and the things we can come across. The goal of the department is to raise mathematic teachers in the primary school level. After covering mathematics lessons theoretically we get the chance to cover them practically in the computer labaratory. And again we have mathematic workshops. Our intership consists of two stages. It lasts one year and happens in the last year. First stage, you go and watch. In the second stage you start to lecture, thus you complete your internship. You can work as a primary school mathematics teacher in the Ministry of Education. You can lecture in preparatory school as a mathematics teacher. You can give private lectures and courses. Or you can consider the academic career and become an academican after doing a masters degree and doctorate. Friends later on the video another student from our department is going to share her experiences whilst studying this department in Baskent University.
I am Büşra Eraslan. I'm a forth grader in the Primary and Mathematics department in Baskent University. I chose this depatment mostly because I am interested in mathematics and I like to learn and teach. I always wanted to do tutoring since I was a kid. I can say I made my dreams come true. When I did a research about Baskent University, the transportation is easy. When it comes to the academic staff we have considerablly very succesfull teachers. Thus I chose Baskent University. I think Baskent University has very succesfull tutors in its academic staff. Also the advantage of easy transportation had made me choose Baskent University. We mostly use the library and the computer labaratory. During the mid-terms and finals we stay up all night in the library almost every day. Beside, our teachers support us with every issue. Indeed, we have a very joyful campus life. Spring fairs, events we host, we are having so much fun... Every opportunity is supplied in this matter. In our lunch breaks we go to recreational facilities and find the opportunities to eat and have fun with friends. Therefore I like the environment of Baskent University. After graduation we do have the chance to work in various fields. But I am thinking about an academic career mostly. I want to do master’s degree and be a lecturer and then do a doctorate and rise. I have these as my goal but some of my friends are studying for PPSE (Public Personnel Selection Examination) This is also an advantage for us. I can give this advice: If you like to learn and teach you should choose tutoring. But if we were to mention why mathematics part, mathematics is a department that’s so related to numbers and thinking. Because mathematics is not a department that is only concerned with solving problems. There are things that we call mathematical thinking and numeric sense. Therefore, both to improve themselves and be useful for the country, in my opinion mathematics is a very advantageous department.
