Department of Psychology

Hi, I am Zeinep ZEINEL. I am a fourth-year student in the Department of Psychology at Baskent University. Psychology Department of Baskent University was established in 2008. Includes a four-year undergraduate program. The purpose of our department is to provide scientific and academic environment necessary for the education of psychologists, who are able to think critically, have basic knowledge of psychology, able to convert their scientific education into application depending on professional ethics, conscious, aware of himself and his environment, have high communication skills. In the first year of the Psychology Department of Baskent University, basic science education is given. Courses such as social anthropology, general biology, critical thinking, and scientific philosophy are opened within the scope of this education. The second and third years of the Department of Psychology of the Baskent University provide basic field education, and within the scope of this education, courses such as social psychology, developmental psychology and statistics are opened. When it comes to the fourth grade, many different subdivisions of psychology are opened. Students can choose these courses according to the area they want to specialize in the future. Examples of courses to be opened: Refugee psychology, existential psychology, neuropsychology, psychopharmacology. There are many different laboratories in our department. Students have the opportunity to transform learned theoretical knowledge during their education to practical knowledge in these laboratories. I would like to give examples of these laboratories: Lifelong Developmental Psychology Laboratory, Social Psychology Laboratory, Cognitive Neural Science Laboratory, Health Psychology Practice and Research Laboratory. There is no compulsory internship program in our department. However, students who want to do volunteer internship can do also with the help of their teachers. Every student who comes to the fourth grade has to complete the graduation projects. Students who was able to complete this project are entitled to graduation. When you graduate from the psychology department, you can work in many different fields. The examples of these fields: academic, education, health, media, justice. If we give an examples to these institutions, they can work in kindergartens, schools, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, prisons. In the rest of the video, another friend of mine studying in our department will talk briefly about her experience she had in this department of Baskent University.
Guys, I am Yagmur Temiz. I am a third-year student in the Department of Psychology at Baskent University. The main motivation for me to choose this department was, first, to get to know myself and then to have a higher level of awareness of understanding what is happening around me. After the exams, I started to visit the publicity days of the universities. When I came to Baskent University and saw the environment, had the chance to talk with my professors, I decided to complete my education at this university. Since the year I entered the university, I have had the opportunity to work in the laboratories and the instructors always helped me with the researches I wanted to carry out. The atmosphere of our library, along with being one of the biggest libraries in Turkey, motivates person to study. After graduation, I would like to pursue my master’s degree in the field of social psychology and conduct researches in this field. My most important advice to my all friends in the stage of choosing university is they being able to imagine themselves in a place where they will be happy, and what they will do ten years from now. Department of Psychology of Baskent University is an accredited department. If you come to this university, you will be able to improve yourself, have perspectives towards life and can be happy people. Therefore, I invite you all to sit in the future in the desks of department where I was sitting.
