Political Science and Public Administration
Hello, I am Prof. Dr. Alim YILMAZ, the Department Chair of Political Science and Public Administration at Istanbul Medeniyet University. We offer doctoral and master's programs in political science and public administration as part of our graduate education programs. Among these programs, we have English and Turkish doctoral programs, as well as a specific field recognized by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) called political psychology, which is one of 102,000 program. We offer doctoral programs in these areas. In addition, we have master's programs in public administration, local governments, and non-thesis programs. These are divided into public administration and urban planning, local governments. In order to apply to our master's programs, students must first complete their undergraduate education. After completing their undergraduate studies, they need to achieve a certain score in the Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) and a foreign language proficiency test. This requirement may change over time, but currently, an average score of 55 in a foreign language, such as English or other languages, and a minimum score of 50 is sufficient. We conduct interviews for our master's and doctoral programs. In the interviews and intention letters, we start our academic education with students who demonstrate the necessary achievement and rank within the quota. Our teaching staff consists of professors, associate professors, doctorate faculty members, and research assistants. Each faculty member is a successful academic known in their field in Turkey, and many of them have international experience. They have received education at numerous universities abroad and have also served as faculty members. In the programs we carry out within the Graduate School of Education, we primarily cover the fundamental topics of political science and public administration. We shape our academic education within this framework. However, the content of our programs can be better understood by looking at the course offerings. For example, we have very important and fundamental courses such as political theory, political science, religion and politics, governance studies, and political sociology. As a result of this academic success, our graduates, with the titles they obtain, can find employment in many parts of Turkey, universities, public institutions, private sector, and even international sectors. In our master's and doctoral programs, each student is assigned an advisor as required by the law. After completing their courses, juries are formed, and there is active interaction between advisors and students. Throughout the entire process of thesis writing, research, and implementation, our academics, faculty members, provide direct and qualified support to our students.
For our students, we offer high-quality courses as a priority. Additionally, we hold symposiums, conferences, and international events for extracurricular activities. Through these activities, we strive to make our students more self-confident, critical thinkers who can comprehend and write academically. Our university is located in Göztepe, one of the most accessible areas of Istanbul. We have one of the most important libraries among universities in Turkey. This library offers significant opportunities, allowing students to socialize and explore various topics for reading, research, and study. The program of Political Science and Public Administration particularly offers exchange programs within the scope of ERASMUS. Through agreements with countries such as Germany, France, Poland, and many others, our students have the opportunity to go there and receive education. Recently, dozens of our students have continued their education by staying at these universities for at least one semester. Scholarship programs are not provided directly by our department or main discipline. However, our faculty, institute, and university offer various scholarships, such as meal scholarships. In addition, there are scholarships provided by the Higher Education Council (YÖK) and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK). Furthermore, we strive to support students in need through scholarships offered by the private sector. We aim to provide education from theory to practice. In addition to research in political science, political sociology, and political psychology, our course content covers specific areas such as management sciences, public administration, constitutional law, and state law. Within this framework, we organize theses, publications, articles, and symposiums. This is also one of the most distinguishing factors of Istanbul Medeniyet University's Department of Political Science and Public Administration in Turkey. The doctoral program in political science and public administration has now become an international program. We admit 5 students to our Turkish-language doctoral program. What we expect from them is to provide proof of graduation from their respective countries and to pass the exam successfully. Similarly, we have an English-language program in political science and public administration. The main aim of this English program is to attract qualified researchers from abroad, the Islamic world, the Turkic world, and Europe to Turkey and Istanbul Medeniyet University. Within this framework, we admit students within the set quota of 7 students over an average period of 7 years. Graduates of Istanbul Medeniyet University's Political Science and Public Administration Master's and Doctoral Program receive a highly qualified education, which enables them to easily find employment in the market, universities, private sector, financial sector, and even international organizations. This is because they receive specialized training not only in foreign language proficiency but also in how research should be conducted, and how it should be concluded. There are many programs in the field of political science and public administration in Turkey. However, we provide a comprehensive education program that brings politics and administration together, discussing and evaluating political and administrative issues as a whole. In this regard, we believe that we stand out. We invite you all to Istanbul Medeniyet University's Graduate School of Education, Department of Political Science and Public Administration, for the Doctoral and Master's Programs.
