Folk Dances Community
Hello, my name is Ömer Faruk İlgün and I am a third year student at the Faculty of Law. This is my 4th year in the universirt with 1 year in prep. shcool. I am a member of the Ufuk University Folk Dance Community. In October 2015, our community was started to introduce Turkish young people to Turkish culture, bringing them into the same sphere. We meet two days a week at the Balgat Campus Conference Hall. We have a total of 40 members. In general, our community consists of those who want to go abroad, those who want to protect their cultural heritage, those who suffer from stage fright and those who want to dance at their weddings. The main activities we carried out throughout the year are our annual year-end show in May. In addition, at the request of the school, we are also active on national days such as 23 April and 19 May. Apart from that, we are the only community of our university to visit abroad. We participated in the International Dance Festivals in the Czech Republic and Romania. Our most extensive activities are our participation in the International Dance Festivals in Europe together with our friends. Our community is open to all those from the academic staff and students, who want to be a part of this culture, who like to dance, who want to beat their fear of the stage, regardless of age. Folk dancing has increased my self-confidence, given me experience of the stage and offered me the opportunity to become more experienced with folk dances. For example, I can now dance more easily when I go to weddings. We await all those who want to dance but who say ‘I can’;t do this’, who are afraid and most importantly want to represent our country and our university abroad together with us. I wish success to all those entering the university exam.
