Gender Equality Community
Hello, my name is Yağmur Aydın and I am a student in the Faculty of Law at Ufuk University. I am the president of the Gender Equality Community at our university and I will give you some brief information about it. Our community was founded in order to raise awareness in our community and university on the issues of gender inequality in our country, of violence against women and that of any person who gets exposed to violence, including men and LGBT individuals. On campus, we work primarily in the areas at the entrance of our school. Apart from that, we are able to hold our meetings in the lecture rooms and conference halls of the university. We can also gather on the lawn and in the cafes. The number of members consists of approximately 50 people, and those who want to become members of our society are usually composed of those friends who work on behalf of gender equality or want to raise awareness in these issues. During the year, especially on November 25 and March 8, we have organized events. As you know November 25, is 'International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women' and 8 March is 'International Working Women's Day'. We opened a stand on both and presented things like posters, promotional brochures and so on in our booth. We also held a large conference. The name of our conference was: 'Fighting Violence against Women in the Turkish Civil Code'. These were the largest activities we have made. As a Gender Equality Community, we have developed ourselves in terms of sensitivity and consciousness, and with the development of ourselves, we have been able to contribute something to our friends and those who are members of this community. At the same time, we realized that we could be activists, not just during our university life but in our professional lives too. Our society is open to all students at the university. Our membership conditions are only those who want to work on this subject and who are struggling to become activists all their life—this is our only condition. I wish success to all those students who are preparing for the university exam. If you choose our university, we await you at our society.
