Theatre Community
Firstly I would like to say hello. My name is Nerih Paşa Altuntaş and I am a second year student in the Department of Psychology, at the Faculty of Science and Arts. I have been chairman of the Ufuk Theatre Community since the beginning of this year. This Community has existed since the school opened, but it only started to actively produce plays and events in 2013-2014. Our aim is to ensure the continuity of socio-cultural activities in the university and to help new students acclimatise to the school and for them to do something other than reading—and to gain a hobby. In the campus, outside rehearsal hours, we usually gather in the canteen or one of the cafes behind the school. However, when it is time for the rehearsals, we go to the conference hall. The school allows us to use the Conference Hall after 17:30 and we usually do all our rehearsals there. We presently have around forty members. In the course of the year we organise activities for 23 April. This year, a 19 May event was requested from us and we organised one accordingly. In addition, we aim to produce at least one theatre play a year, which we do regularly. Some years, we produce two plays this year we will have a play for April 23 and for May 19 as well as another main production. The most comprehensive activity we have made throughout the year is our main play, which we have chosen. We have another goal for the future If we have the opportunity we would like to invite other universities here and organize a small theatre festival. Our society is open to all students and faculty members of the school. Since we are a theater company and we appear on stage this helps to improve our confidence. We perform in front of about 600 people on stage. That’s why I think it will contribute to the business presentations that we will make in the future. I also see the theatre as a nice hobby rather than just spending time in lectures or wasting my free time. When you come, please don’t forget to stop by the Ufuk Theatre Community Stand and may be we will produce a play together next year!
