Swimming Team

My name is Sina Ertekin and I am an Ufuk University 3rd. year Faculty of Medicine student. I have been involved with swimming since 2004 and I am also a national athlete and Ufuk University swimming team captain. Our sports team was established in October this year with the launch of our pool. Our aim is to reach a high level in the ‘KOÇFEST’—our first competition. We have a sports facility inside our campus where basketball, volleyball, a weight lifting room and also a swimming pool are available. Our team consists of 20 people. We actively have 20 athletes, but occasionally the number varies depending on the course situation of our friends. We have started with 1 workout at the beginning of the year on a day that was suited to the schedule of our friends. Since realizing such success, we now have 3 workouts a week, on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. In swimming there are no matches, as there are in football championships. This year between 16-22 May there is the KOÇFEST, which we will take part in, so we are preparing for that. This year, there was a championship between medical universities and Ufuk University was the first in this championship. Our team is actually open to all students of our faculty, but as the swimming team, we accept students who are able to complete the necessary “drills” ; licensed and professional athletes with more of a swimming past. Firstly the facility is very conveniently located and the school allows us to take full advantage of it. For instance, a month ago I had to practice for a competition which required a lot of training. Apart from the opening hours of the pool, I could come and use both the weight lifting room and the pool as I needed—our instructors were very helpful in this matter. The opportunity to continue swimming at the university helped me both to organize my life and to happily continue the sport I enjoy here. At the same time doing this with my team is a big plus for me. I would like to recommend to those friends who want to do sports in the university and continue their education successfully, to opt for Ufuk University without any hesitation. A couple of words in terms of swimming—if you want to learn this sport here, you can be sure that you will learn and maintain it in a very nice way.
