Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Sciences
Hello, I am Professor Bahadir SAYINCI, the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Sciences at Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University. Our faculty was established in 2012 as the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies, and in 2015, its name was updated to the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Sciences to comply with legislation. The faculty comprises six departments: field crops, horticultural crops, plant protection, biosystems engineering, soil science and plant nutrition, and agricultural economics. Currently, four of these departments are actively engaged in educational activities.According to the OSYM (Assessment, Selection, and Placement Center Presidency) guide, students have the option to choose between two programs: the Biosystems Engineering Department and the Agricultural Engineering Program. Students who opt for the Biosystems Engineering Department graduate as biosystems engineers after completing a four-year program. On the other hand, students who choose the Agricultural Engineering Program complete common courses in the first year and then select a department in the second year, such as field crops, plant protection, or horticultural crops, and graduate with the title of agricultural engineer after four years of education. Our faculty has a total of 23 academic staff, including 19 lecturers and 4 instructors. Postgraduate education is offered in the field crops department and the biosystems engineering department. While both master's and doctoral education are provided in the field crops department, only doctoral education is offered in this department. The courses offered in our faculty can be grouped into four main categories. The first category includes basic science courses, such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology. The second category consists of general engineering courses, which are common for all departments, as well as department-specific engineering courses. The third category includes engineering courses specific to each department, such as those in biosystems engineering, field crops, plant protection, and horticulture, which may be offered in a unique manner based on the requirements of each department. The fourth category comprises university social electives or faculty electives, which are a pool of courses prepared based on students' special interests. Students can choose courses from this pool based on their interests and apply their knowledge to their profession after graduation. Our faculty's laboratories, including the soil analysis laboratory, plant analysis laboratory, and water analysis laboratory, are located in the central laboratory building of our university. These laboratories are equipped with modern facilities and support not only our undergraduate and graduate students but also farmers in the region. Additionally, the application and research center provided by our university houses laboratories for the departments of field crops, plant protection, horticulture, and biosystems engineering. These laboratories conduct academic research and scientific activities to support the farmers in the region, publishing results from detailed analyses.Internship training is an important part of our curriculum, and our students complete a 30-day internship during their studies. In their third year, students are accepted for internships through one-on-one interviews with companies related to agriculture based on their interests and preferences. Once accepted, they submit their acceptance letters to their departments and commence their internship training during the summer term. Our students have the opportunity to intern not only outside of our faculty but also at the Agricultural Application and Research Center, taking advantage of the opportunities offered by our university. Students who choose to intern at the application and research center can gain valuable practical experience and laboratory skills through involvement in academic studies.Graduation thesis studies are conducted in the fourth year of the program. Students choose topics from announcements and complete their graduation thesis under the supervision of an advisor.
Students in our faculty have the opportunity to participate in the ERASMUS program, which allows them to gain valuable experience by studying abroad for a semester. They can seamlessly continue their undergraduate education upon their return by taking adjustment courses. Our faculty has a strong tradition of organizing large-scale events, such as the 34th National Agricultural Mechanization and Energy Congress, which was held in Bilecik Province in September 2002. This convention brought together academics and experts in agricultural machinery and energy from all over the country, providing a rich learning experience for our university and students. Participation in such events allows our students to gain practical knowledge and exposure to the latest developments in their field. Our agricultural engineering program offers a wide range of elective courses, allowing students to tailor their education to their specific interests and career goals. Graduates of our program can pursue careers in various sectors, including organizations affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture, research institutes, agricultural credit cooperatives, professional chambers, sugar factories, flour factories, oil factories, and other sectors related to food production. Graduates with a background in agricultural technologies can also work in tractor factories and companies that produce agricultural machinery. Our curriculum emphasizes strong foundations in basic sciences, including mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology. Our experienced academic staff ensures that students receive thorough preparation in these subjects from the beginning of their undergraduate studies. We take a proactive approach in supporting our students' learning, including conducting face-to-face and one-on-one interviews to address any difficulties they may encounter. Additionally, we offer summer school programs as an opportunity for students who may have missed classes or faced challenges during the regular academic term. Our faculty is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories, and we place great emphasis on providing hands-on learning opportunities for our students through field studies and laboratory work. We also have active student clubs and collaborate with trade associations to further enrich our students' learning experiences. Furthermore, our university offers a wide range of cultural and sports activities that students can participate in, providing them with a well-rounded university experience.Technical tours are also organized as part of our faculty's activities, allowing students to visit companies in the agricultural sector and gain practical exposure to real-world applications of their studies. We extend our best wishes to all candidates who will be taking the university entrance exam, and we warmly welcome everyone to join Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Sciences.
