Turkish Language and Literature

Hello, my name is Ahmet Şefik ŞENLİK. I am a faculty member and the Head of the Department of Turkish Language and Literature at Istanbul Medeniyet University. The Department of Turkish Language and Literature consists of five programs: Old Turkish language, modern Turkish language, Old Turkish literature, modern Turkish literature, and folk literature. To apply to our programs, you need to have a score from the ALES (Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam) exam and a foreign language proficiency score. After completing two semesters of coursework, it is possible to graduate from the master's and doctoral programs by completing a thesis. We have a diverse and highly qualified faculty. Some of our faculty members have studied abroad and are proficient in multiple foreign languages. We have experts and diligent faculty members in their respective fields. Our courses vary according to the sub-disciplines within the department. In language courses and language-related programs, we offer courses on phonology, syntax, morphology, etymology, historical Turkish dialects, and modern Turkish languages. In our literature-related programs, we offer courses on literary history and modern theories. Our faculty members closely collaborate with master's and doctoral candidates in our department. Through these collaborations, joint papers, articles, and book projects are developed and the progress of these works is monitored. Additionally, we provide opportunities for our students to enhance their knowledge and experience by facilitating their international mobility. ERASMUS is one of the programs through which our students have the chance to study abroad. We have an ERASMUS agreement with Krakow University, which is one of the prominent scientific centers in Europe. Many of our candidates have had the opportunity to study at Krakow University through the ERASMUS program. We collaborate with various universities, writers, and scientists to support the academic development of our students. We invite them to our university and physical spaces, or we connect them with our students through online platforms. Therefore, they are not limited to the university campus alone. Our students have the opportunity to learn about events and activities outside the university as well. Our university has an exceptional and magnificent library. The library serves not only our own students but also students from neighboring universities and is highly regarded. Our program has international and national initiatives. One of these facilities is the ERASMUS program, which provides international mobility. Through ERASMUS, many of our postgraduate students have the opportunity to study at prestigious European universities. Our university is young and dynamic. Our faculty members come from various different backgrounds, which adds extra dynamism to our department. This allows our students to progress with diverse perspectives and scientific theories. Foreign students are also welcome to apply to our programs. We have students from Europe and Arab countries, some of whom come through the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB). Graduates of our program become master's degree holders, doctors, or academics. They have opportunities to work as academics at various universities in Turkey. Likewise, they can pursue academic careers abroad. Our programs have a highly qualified faculty with expertise in multiple languages. Each of them is an expert in their respective field and desires to collaborate closely with our students. We wish success to all applicants who will apply to our program.
