Guidance and Psychological Counseling

Greetings, I am Associate Professor Mehmet BOYACI, a lecturer in the Department of Psychological Counseling and Guidance at Istanbul Medeniyet University's Faculty of Educational Sciences. Our department offers a master's program with thesis in Psychological Counseling and Guidance (PDR), which aims to train experts, researchers, science professionals, and future PhD candidates in the field. To be eligible for admission to our program, prospective students must have completed a recognized undergraduate degree in Psychological Counseling and Guidance or a related field, either in Turkey or abroad. Additionally, they are required to take the ALES exam and a foreign language proficiency exam in Turkey.
International students are expected to hold a C1 level Turkish speaking proficiency certificate from TÖMER (Turkish Teaching Application and Research Center). Within our PDR master's program, we have a highly qualified faculty consisting of professors, associate professors, doctoral lecturers, and research assistants. These instructors possess expertise in various areas, including family counseling, school counseling, relationship counseling, post-traumatic stress disorder, solution-focused therapy, and psychological counseling theories.
Our master's program in Psychological Counseling and Guidance with thesis is designed to explore psychological counseling theories, principles, techniques, and current approaches in the field. We emphasize courses that prioritize research methods and techniques to align with the advancements in the scientific world. With a considerable number of instructors available, we ensure personalized attention for each student enrolled in our program. This means that our students receive dedicated mentoring in thesis writing, projects, and research.
To facilitate the academic development of our students, we actively involve them in symposiums, congresses, and research projects. Additionally, our professors collaborate with our students on articles and research endeavors both inside and outside the classroom. We strive to provide comprehensive support and guidance to our students, fostering their growth and success in the field of psychological counseling and guidance.
Our classes are conducted at the Northern Campus of Istanbul Medeniyet University, with additional access to libraries in Orhanlı and Ceviz Klinik Campus. Our classrooms are conveniently situated near Ziraat Bank Central Library, allowing our students easy access to the school's library resources. The campus provides individual study halls, group study halls, and seminar halls, ensuring a conducive environment for studying. Furthermore, we have dedicated rooms for individual and group counseling, where practical sessions take place.
Within our program, we have established agreements with universities participating in the ERASMUS program. While our university does not offer scholarships or internship opportunities specifically within our program, our students have the option to apply for scholarship programs supported by TÜBİTAK (Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Council), YÖK (Higher Education Board), or other institutions. Our academic staff provides guidance to students in this regard.
Situated in the heart of Istanbul, our university boasts extensive physical facilities and is enriched by a profound geographical and cultural heritage. Our qualified and experienced academic staff is actively engaged in research, publications, and projects. We are dedicated to delivering a highly beneficial education to our students through our practice-oriented approach. Each semester, specific quotas are reserved for our foreign students who apply to our master's program with thesis. We expect foreign students to demonstrate Turkish proficiency at a C1 level and provide a proficiency certificate from TÖMER (Turkish Teaching Application and Research Center).
Upon successful completion of our program, students are awarded the title of "Science Specialist" in the field of psychological counseling and guidance. This qualification enhances job prospects, enabling graduates to pursue employment in the field, establish their own private practices, or contribute as science experts in institutions such as family counseling and school counseling. We also strive to enhance our students' preparedness for doctoral studies through postgraduate coursework.
