Department of English Language Teaching

Hello, my name is Esra Kaçar and I am a student in the Ufuk University Department of English Language Teaching. The department aims to produce well-equipped teachers who aspire to teach English effectively and improve themselves in the professional and personal spheres. In general, the courses we take are field and education related courses, alongside general culture courses. In addition, we also take courses in professional approaches. We have a language laboratory in our school and in this lab, we have the opportunity to learn foreign languages effectively and pleasurably with the various technological devices and instruments at our disposal. In the first semester of our final year we have an internship at designated schools where we observe and prepare reports. In the second semester, we complete our internship at the end of 14 weeks by preparing lectures and activities in these designated internship schools. After graduation, we have the opportunity to teach in various institutions. For example, primary, high school or secondary schools. Besides, we can also be instructors at universities. We can also work as an interpreter. The reason why I chose this department was because teaching English was always my childhood dream. In addition, I always had an interest in foreign languages and cultures. Furthermore, my English teacher in elementary school had a big impact on me. Studying at university in Ankara was a priority for me, and Ufuk University offered me various scholarship opportunities as a student. Moreover, the fact that Ufuk University's teaching staff is very competent and provide free health services to their students is another factor in my choice. Among the facilities I've benefited from the most while studying in my department are the teaching staff of our school, our library, our language laboratory, and also our school's various societies. After completing my undergraduate degree, I would like to continue my career as an academic by completing my master's and doctoral studies in Germany and then return to my country. To be able have fun while studying in a department, to discover, to open up to a global world, to expand your horizons and to find opportunities to work in many areas, and most importantly, to be able to learn while teaching—for these reasons you should choose the Department of English Language Teaching.
