Department of Agricultural Economics

Hello, I'm Kaan Kizilcan. I am a 4th grade student at Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Agricultural Economics. The Department of Agricultural Economics seeks solutions to agricultural problems by using the basic principles of economics. It produces policies related to agricultural problems. Our faculty is located in Taşlıçiftlik Campus in the Tokat province. In our department, mostly agricultural courses are given in the first 2 years. However, in the 3rd and 4th grades, the emphasis is on the fundamental courses of economics such as Macroeconomics, Microeconomics and Economics. There is one computer laboratory in our school. Agricultural Economics, Computer Usage and Geographic Information Systems courses are given in the computer laboratory. Our department requires 45 working days of internship. 3rd year students can do their internships in public and private institutions during the summer, and if necessary, within our university. Thus, they can apply what they have learned in the theoretical courses. After graduating from our department, it is possible to work in many public and private institutions. These include banks or chambers of agriculture. There are all kinds of job opportunities, except for specific fields where agricultural engineers and economists can work. I took the university exam in the equal-weight section, and this is the only engineering faculty that accepts that score. In addition to the agriculture courses, the economics courses we took were also a reason for me to choose this department. On the other hand, I chose this department because I believe in the bright future of agriculture in our world and in our country. I also preferred Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University in relation to its department. As you know, the province of Tokat is a leading province in the field of agriculture in Turkey. Therefore, we had the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge we learned in the course in practice, and this was one of the reasons why I preferred Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University. After graduation, we have many things to do. My goal is to continue my graduate education in this department by combining the knowledge I learned in the field of agriculture with the knowledge I learned in the field of economics. My advice to candidates who will choose our university is to be interested in their departments because then it is better understood and there is a better opportunity to learn. My other advice is to show great interest in the courses from the first year, to participate in social activities related to the courses, to follow the published national and international publications and books.
