I am Instructor Doctor Sertaç Keskin. I have been working in the English Preparatory Department at Trakya University School of Foreign Languages for 8 years. After completing my master's degree on speaking strategies, I completed my doctorate in a different field, special education. Two different student groups receive preparatory education at our school. The first of these is compulsory preparatory education and the other is optional preparatory education. Compulsory preparatory education consists of students from different faculties of our university. For example, We have students who take compulsory preparatory education from the Mechanical Engineering, Electrical-Electronics Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering; from English Translation, German Translation, Bulgarian Translation from the Faculty of Letters; from Department of English Language Teaching and German Language Teaching from the Faculty of Education. Apart from this, we have preparatory students from more than eighty different programs at our university. This program is optional and subject to quotas. Preparatory education is offered at our school in German, Bulgarian and English. Its duration is 1 year. Of course, our students who take compulsory preparatory education can be exempted from preparatory education, provided that they document their language proficiency. Detailed information about the exemption is provided on our website. Apart from this, we conduct a proficiency and course determination exam at the beginning of each year. This exam is an exam that tests the proficiency of our students. Students who get 60 points or more can switch to their own programs without taking preparatory education. Students who score sixty points or less are required to take preparatory education for one year. Quality in preparatory education is one of the issues we attach great importance to. In 2018, our school was accredited by the UK-based company Pearson Assured. This situation is audited annually by our external stakeholder. During the audit, we go through audit processes on issues such as education-training processes, measurement and evaluation, management activities and security. Our accreditation gets reinstated in these audits, which are repeated every year. If our students are successful in the preparatory education, an internationally valid certificate is presented to the students by the Pearson Assured company.
