Information Systems and Technologies
I am Pınar Akarçay, Ph.D. Lecturer. I am the head of the Department of Customs Management. Our department delivers courses on the subjects of customs legislation, basic law, general management and customs management. We have a library that our students can use. We have classrooms, a seminar room and conference rooms. Our students must complete a 40-day internship. Internships start from the 4th semester. Internships can be done in the customs offices affiliated with the Ministry of Customs, foreign trade departments of international enterprises and logistics companies. There are some universities that our school has agreements with within the scope of the Erasmus Programme. Our students can take advantage of these opportunities by successfully passing the required exams. Our graduates can work as customs inspectors, foreign exchange officers and foreign trade specialists in customs consultancy. Few universities in Turkey have a customs management department. Trakya University is one of these few universities. Moreover, since Trakya University is in Edirne and Edirne shares a border gate with two different countries, our students have the opportunity to practice what they have learned at these border gates. There is also an opportunity to develop a business network here. At the same time, we, as a university, carried out some joint projects and studies in the past years, especially with the Ipsala Border Gate, which is 20 kilometers away. Our students have the opportunity and chance to develop their knowledge and experience by taking part in these collaborations and projects. Our students do not have any problems with accommodation in Keşan. There are many opportunities for accommodation. There are both state and private dormitories. In addition, the places where our students can spend time outside of class and school, that is, social opportunities, are plentiful compared to Keşan, although more distant to the center. We strive to improve the social opportunities of our students, especially through student groups, tours and excursions. In addition, we are constantly trying to improve our library in order to increase the students’ knowledge. Indeed, we have come a long way in that regard. Students can access any resource from anywhere by using Trakya University’s databases or by visiting either the university or the city library. In addition, we have career orientation studies. Of course, this is something that involves every department, but the customs department is also very much involved. We, the professors, try to guide our students in these career orientation studies by directly contacting and listening to them. In this context, we try to improve both the scientific and the social infrastructure for our students by organizing seminars and trips to institutions that are relevant to both our department and to the individual careers plans for our students. We welcome our students who want to receive a good and quality education at our university.
